Hey guys,
I think I came up with an easy way to get a few extra ponies.  I bought this industrial shop vac that is strong as hell.  If I'm on a chair with wheels and put it on the blow setting it moves me across the room pretty quickly.  I was thinking that I could rig this up on the car to make it run a little quicker.  So what I'd do is fill the shop vac with water.  Hook the tube up directly to my carb and when I needed some extra power, flip on the switch.  Since the vac will be filled with water, it will act as a filtration system with the air passes thru.  Plus, If I added some ice cubes it would cool the air down even more making the car even faster.  I also figured that when the air is being pushed into the carb it will act like a small blower.  The possibilities are endless!  Once I rig up the shop vac to plug into my cigarette lighter I'll let you know how well it works.  I added a picture to demonstrate.

Whatever you do...be sure to film it.   :2thumbs:
Extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence.

up on further review,i did the math for cfm & you are going to have to get 3 more wet vacs! walmart has extension cords on sale that have multiple plugs ,they also have roof racks so you can mount the vacs on the roof.

I seriously doubt this will be a concern with a Shop vac., but you can't simply blow through a typical Holley carb without pressurizing the entire carb. Hense, "Blow through" carbs...If that thing is as strong as you claim, you might be Popping a carb soon. Believe it or not, back in HS(1988), I took a "Squirrel cage" and mounted it crudely on the hood of a 440 powered 1970 Plymouth Fury, added an inverter, powered it up, and proceeded to blow fuel all over the top of the engine along with no real power gains to speak of.

Good idea, but be careful. I'm always a fan of cheap inginuity.

I like your style!!!!  I wonder if we can make a sort of domino effect by blowing one shop vac into another in series to make it even more powerful!!!???

I hope I don't blow my headers off!!

If you used my Stihl BR600 leaf blower you wouldn't need any 12v source, and it puts out almost 1000 cfm

I would but the fumes in the car would kill me.

been thinkin about your awesome idea & came up with this! you could route one of the suction sides to the crank case & that would be an awesome crank vac system, MAN! with these modifications the power is just unlimited    :shortbus:

Building off that idea, I could also have a suction side pulling on my brake booster.  SUPER POWER BRAKES!!!!

a few ideas

2 you are making a joke
3 you actually think this will work
68 440 4 speed 4.10

If there is a problem with the gas blowing out, why not switch the order:  Carb-shopvac-manifold or carb-ac-manifold

Or maybe it protects us.

I suppose it depends on the specific case.....

thats a great idea! all that gas going through the impeller blades will atomize the fuel better than anything ever invented before,i'm gonna have the fastest, best stopping, fuel efficient, mobile carpet cleaning 68 charger in the world.

And you will have a very clean carburetor to boot!

Such a good idea!  I'm wrapping my AC compressor and lines in duct insulation as we speak.  This should keep the air a little cooler on long trips.
