There's a thread on here somewhere about the hood mounted tach.  It was a factory aftermarket bolt on and I believe it was made by the same manufacturer as the Pontiac version.

Nacho-RT74

Dixco made them for Chrysler too... dealer option since 69.

I'd like one to my 74, and remove the autometer unit from below my dash.

Back in the 8's there was a Daytona that was a regular at shows in the midwest that had one of the Mopar hood tachs on it.  I have pics somewhere.

I don't think I would be able to see the number that far away!! :eek2:

Ghoste

You don't need to read it anyway, just know that when the needle is pointed to a certain position, shift!

TUFCAT

Before Direct Connection, Chrysler dealers sold the Dixco tach through the "Hustle Stuff" catalog. I think they were exactly the same as AMC, Pontiac, and Buick with differet logos.  $199.00 looks like a good price, Year One sells their Pontiac GTO reproduction hood tach for $301.72

they don't look to be the same... not at leats the Pontiac one. This looks to be more flat than the "Chrysler" ( HT/x ) version

bull

This looks stupid to me. Maybe if it were body colored it would blend in but I just don't like the look of it on the Charger hood.

Ghoste

Yeah, that black one in the ad sticks out like a bruise.

mauve66

it should be farther back on the hood towards the windshield

I kinda like it. True, from the pic it does need to move back..  :scratchchin:

I agree with Mauve.  The ones I've always seen, and not many, have been inches away from the windshield.  In this case with the depth of the cowl - it should probably be near the edge of the back of the hood.  Just my    :Twocents:

Would look even better with some Daytona fender scoops.  :stirthepot:

I suppose with the ad, they were trying to use the best looking car available but then faced with the dilemma of the car overpowering the product they would need to stick it in an awkward spot and give it a contrasting color.

areibel

My eyes are bad enough I'd have to mount it on the cowl? ;D

I always liked that style hood tach, but definitely not on the Charger hood like in that old ad. For any of the cars that I have, I'd consider it for my Scamp but doubt I'd ever install one. My thoughts on adding anything to a car now, is that I better REALLY, REALLY like it.

You should see it when it moves. It won't move on this site. I have WAY more creepy ones. This one was tame.

Gotta be the same car, how many could there be?

I had one of the after market ones (without the Chrysler logo) mounted on my first car, a '66 Charger back in the day.  Never wired it up, was just for looks in my case.  I removed it when I added a Challenger TA hood scope to my Charger.  I actually still have it in the garage along with the install instructions...

That is something I could never add to one of my Chargers. Too Pontiac for me. It does look O.K. on the Daytona along with the fender scoops.
