Ladder bars on lifted 4x4's ?

I'm looking to install some sort of device to prevent axle wrap on my truck as I go through about three heavy duty U-joints a year. Ladder bars are probably the easiest solution but I hate the big-ol long 80's style bars. Ladder bars also limit wheel travel (not that I have much anyways with the arched springs) and also kill ground clearance.  I have seen other styles of bars and seeking opinions from those who have experience with different devices.

look at Glacier diesel power, that could give you an idea for  some ladder bars. From what i have read the don't bind or hurt articulation very bad.

Those seem to be the typical most current design with the shackle. Although not as good as a full ladder bar I've been toying with the idea of running just a single bar above the axle. At least it would limit axle wrap somewhat compared to running no bars and still maintain ground clearance. The truck doesn't really see hard work very often except for the right pedal, and anything to improve the capabilities can't be a bad thing.

I'd love to make a few pulls a year for fun but worried I'd break it as it's on stock driveline from the T-case back, and the fact that it's not built for pulling.
