Anyone own a "Road Bicycle"?

Well, I bit the bullet today.  Just got back with it.

Picked up the Diamondback Podium 2.  It's a steal for the $549 price tag.  The normal price is towards $900.

I had a lot of Dicks Sporting Goods gift cards so this is why I steered towards Diamondback.  After all the research I did, I found out that Dicks had a good sale on the Road Bikes due to the end of the 2012 model year.  The guy today even was wondering if the chain may stop selling the road bikes because at the end of the day they don't sell many and the price tends to be too high for Dicks customers.  Even today the sale price showed $749.  I told "Nick" to scan it and he will notice the extra $200 off.  He was shocked when it scanned for $549.00.

After all my research I did find a good online source for really good prices and a big selection.  The site is www.jensonusa.com .  They are a big online bike reseller.

Need to get my ass in shape, so I even picked up a indoor resistance trainer so I can ride in the house - should be interesting...

Here's the manufacturers photo of the bike.  It looks like my big fat ass is going to be sore... :eek2: :smilielol:

Excellent and congratulations on the find.   :2thumbs:

Who in their right mind would say

"The science should not stand in the way of this."?

Science is just observation and hypothesis.  Policy stands in the way.........

Or maybe it protects us.

I suppose it depends on the specific case.....

Nice! I wasn't aware that Dicks sold any bikes for more than $400.

First thing: loosen the quick releases on the wheels and turn them away from the ground so they don't snag anything (preferably near or hidden by the frame).

..and that's why I ask the experts.  :2thumbs:

Hey 70MM and Ponch, good score on the bike, maybe spend another $50 and get a comfortable seat with a ''gooch ( balls cutout/) in it, you will thank me for it later   . After around 20 years of not riding, I went and brought a chainstore cheapie chinese knockoff mountain bike at the end of October. Just wanted to get fit again, there's miles of waterfront cycleway's where I live, am doing a 12.5km circuit every 2nd night,  its great. Got  the new seat after 1 week, ah relief

I'm late to this party but wanted to add my 2 cents. I have a Scott S30 Speedster. I bought it about 4 or 5 years ago, around February or March. It was a "leftover", so I got a couple hundred knocked off the price. I eyed this bike up for almost a year, I'm glad I waited for it to become "old". I bought it from a bike shop, where they fitted me to the bike, or the bike to me.

I bought a current year Trek 7.5fx off of craiglist this fall for almost half price.  The tires still had the little hairs on them.

Ok, my cheapo chinese mountain bike kept breaking and wearing stuff out early, then the rim buckled so I took it back for a refund after 5 months + Win  :icon_smile_big:

So the bike barn was having a 50% off sale so I got a bike for $500 that was a grand 2 weeks ago, 2nd Win .
It a Merida Big Nine TFS 19'' frame and 29'' wheels, man, what a delight to ride.
Shimano gears 24 speed, positive snap type gear changes and disc brakes and its light too. Man its fast as well, had 44km/h out of it on the waterfront cycle way. Excellent bike most enjoyable. Yes, designed in Germany ,made in Taiwan, just like a lot of other bikes
Had a new speedo calibrated too, its turns out the loop I do every few nights is 18.5km not 12.5km like I though it was, sweet. Except for the flattie when I had to walk 5km back the other night

Nice. But uh, you have quick release wheel and mountain bike tires. If you also had a $5 glueless patch kit and a mini pump you wouldn't have had to walk. ;) Actually, I just carry compressed gas now because I'm lazy and pumping up a mountain bike tire with a mini pump is frustrating.

Yeah, off to the bike shop this morning to get
a) Patch kit
