in 3 or 4 years I have never being abe to run my 3:55 gears set quiet ( it was NOS MOPAR but without offset paint marks or shine teeth like it was machined to be matched ). Not even a "profesional" mechanic with years of experience on differentials and driveshaft was able to do it.

So I'm watching at a new "lapped" gears set available around whats states to run quiet ( I hope able to be set by an amateur )

front bearing shouldn't be a problem since is not instaled by pressure, but it is posible to reuse the deep bearing what goes instaled by pressure on pinion ?

The rear pinion bearing is a press fit. It can be reused depending on condition but it will need to be removed in a hydraulic press with the proper fixture.

"Clamshell" fixtures that bear on the bearing cage will sometimes work but the proper fixture bears on the bearing's inner race.
Pardon me but my karma just ran over your dogma.

sometime you can get them to be quiet with some home machining.

use a cut-off wheel on die grinder. run the blade perpendicular to the edge of the tooth to knock off the edge of the tooth. just chamfer the edges of the ring and pinion gears on both edges before next install.

takes only a ouple of extra minutes. quiets gears especially in higher ratios. sometimes 3.55 gear get fixed with this.

INTERESTING!!!! worths a try!!!

I was thinking also on use valve grinder between teeth, on the bench, and use an air drill to spin the assembly, to make the "seat"... then reset the backslash.

Of course make it CW and CCW to set both sides of gears.
