Get through a clean divorce, she won, got everything....didnt care, just stuff. Get a little cash saved up, then, bam...I now owe more money....really...wtf!
Guess I should just cough it up(outta the car fund) and be done with it....if I hire a lawyer, well will just cost me more!
Really sucks, she make 3x as much as I do ....just sayin!

Im thinking you should spend a $100 and see what a lawyer has to say.

Its nice that you took the high road.  But Nice doesn't pay the rent.

Know whats really nice? Take every Fu%&^*ing thing you can, so you can be nice as YOU see fit.

Ive had a couple friends do the "nice" thing. And now they wish they didnt.

Good luck!

Exactly. "Nice" is nothing more than a "feel good", and that doesn't last long.

Well, guess I was nice, she got the house with everything in it, but also all the bills! I left with my clothes and my truck, but my retirement fund intact, what money I had, we had separate accounts, and 50/50 on the daughter.
I offered to pay 1/2 of what needs done, after all my daughter lives in that house 50% of the time!

That's the last she gets from me!

In my experience, a call from the "ex" was rarely good news.

Bummer to hear bad news like this, sorry. I'm glad I married who I did, & don't see a divorce in our future. Been with my wife since 1985 when we started dating, & married in 1995. I have seen quite a few of my friends divorced over the years during that time, but only one of them was the type that deserved to be shafted by the ex & actually wasn't. Most ended pretty civil, or seemed that way.

I have not spoken to my ex in years, literally. I can not remember the last time. Been divorced about 16 years or so now. I had a good lawyer and the money I spent was well worth it. Nice guys finish last, believe me that is true. She will be milking you for the rest of her life if you don't have a good lawyer put an end to it through the courts.

If she got the house it is her house, why should you be spending money on it? The only thing you should be responsible for is your dependent daughter in equal portions with your ex. The ex will try to run up the bills on the dependent children if you have to pay them in full. Seen it more times than you know. You need a good lawyer. Pay him now, or pay her forever.

I agree.  I'm the 5th of 6 kids and I saw every one of my older siblings take it up the rear and lose everything and custody of their kids in one fell swoop.   I waited until I was older to get married so I wouldn't risk getting f'ed over by some overgrown teenage dipshit, and I did a prenup.   Only way to go.

We have separate everything.   We have an agreement on who pays what bill, and I foot the rent and she does the utilities.  Putting all your money together means that you have to go ask someone else whether you can spend it or not, and I don't work this hard to ask permission.   Also, I never have to worry about how much of it she could blow on worthless crap.

She has a good job, and by not having access to my money she has incentive to work.   Think that's unfair?  I had one ex GF who said to me 'When are you going to make enough money so that I don't have to work anymore?   I shouldn't have to work'  And I told her 'When you're prepared to do all the housework and cook all the meals (she was lazy, and I cleaned and cooked most of the time).  She didn't see any reason that she should have to do that, and I was being a 'chauvinist' by even suggesting she do housework.     Some women think men should support them 100% financially but also believe it's OK to be hardcore feminists too.  They haven't figured out that the two don't really mix unless your husband is a billionaire and you're a trophy wife.   In which case you probably have an expiration date around 40.

:smilielol:   I lost a bit of coffee reading that, but it was well worth it.

When my wife and I started talking marriage, the first thing she said was prenup.  She wanted to be safe just in case and so did I.  The romance and butterflies go away at some point and without that piece of paper your ass is waiting to be taken.

If you are ready to tie the knot and for whatever reason your (almost) significant other refuses to sign a prenup you can do one of two things.  Walk away and keep your stones or start bending over.  There is no middle ground here.

I was married to the love of my life, and her 4 yr. old step son, May 7th 2011, She was happy 4 months that I know of after. Last Wednesday I signed the divorce papers. :nana: Right before we split,(I was blindsided, seen nothing of the sort)I offered to take in her cousins as there mom was on down hill slide and they needed a future. A week later she walked out on me saying she needed time to think. Come to find out she was seeing a 39 year old.(she was 22). Talking with her the other day she said she is LOVING life. she is now raising 2, 8 and 11 year olds, her 5 year old, her sisters 10,12,and 1 year olds AND a baby on the way, taking care of her boy toys farm because he is never home.....  WHO can say...... ZING I dodged a bullet with that!!!

The ex and I have settled, we have been separated for 3 years, divorced since last April....it is a one time thing, agreed to pay half (with a contact she pays me back when my old house sells) We have 50/50 over the daughter, she's going on 18 soon, no issues there, thanks for the responses!

Sounds like her life now is a Jerry Springer show to me....  Tell her that and it would be funny what the response is!

I have seen prenumps get tossed out in court.  State laws can overide prenumps, and make them worthless "if one party claims they did not understand what they were signing".  Long story short...Prenumps don't always work.

Dino

It is true that a prenup is not foolproof, but I feel that ignoring it proves one a fool.

Seems some got really lucky with the love of their life....hats off to you, seems some dodged a big bullet...hats off to you too!
Me...was with her for 18yrs...all good...divorced now...everything fixed....gave her 2500, done deal!

Paul G

I was 15 years with a woman I didn't like, the mother of my 2 children. Divorced her, cost me 1/2 of everything I owned, assets were split 50/50 all but the bills, those were mine, and the kids to. That was almost 20 years ago. Today, I hear she has nothing, go figure. I have been with my current wife for 16 years. Best friend I will ever have and the love of my life. Fate, you never what tomorrow brings.
