I feel like Im taking crazy pills here!
Detroit city consul decided that they were sick of pumping money into the Detroit zoo (which is located in oakland county btw wich is about 20 miles north west of detroit).
The state stept in and offered $4million in aid which came with the stipulation that the detroit zooalogical socity take over mainigment of the zoo.
This pissed off a couple of barbra rose collens councel people and one was quoted as saying "This an't no plantation, white people cant own black people".
Just when we were on the honey moon from the superbowl and could finaly shake off the post race riot days of white discrimination.
I think Im more upset at the race card being played than the idea of loosing the zoo.
so wheres our mayor in all of this dispute about funding to keep the zoo open?
thats right, he's in Affrica on the city's tab.
race card >>>>>:nutkick:<<<<< welfair of detroit
Im done with detroit, Im outta here as soon as i can! :icon_smile_blackeye:

There is probably a bus leaving for FL within the next couple of hours.  Hitch a ride to Oakland, let all the animals out of the zoo and hop on the bus Gus!

You need to make a CONNECTION  between the zoo ownership changing hands and dark skinned americans talking about plantations.

Whatever the point is you are trying to make, it is lost by lack of explanation....

The political battle over the Detroit Zoo may be resolved this week, but several meetings are scheduled that could produce more of the verbal fireworks that erupted after the Detroit City Council rejected a zoo rescue plan one week ago.

Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick is likely to jump into the fray. He returned to Detroit after a week in Africa where he accompanied his mother, U.S. Rep. Carolyn Cheeks-Kilpatrick, D-Detroit, on a fact-finding mission.

Both Kilpatricks and House Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi of California have scheduled a news conference in Detroit on Monday to discuss the trip.

The sticking point in the battle over the zoo is the transfer of daily operations to the Detroit Zoological Society, while the city would still own the buildings, land, animals and equipment and remain responsible for some expenses, like insurance premiums.

Even though the city would no longer have management or major funding responsibility, some council members have insisted the society hire a mayoral appointee to head the zoo, get more minority representation on the society board and require the council to approve nearly all zoo contracts.

Last week the council rejected a plan by a 7-2 vote to turn over zoo operations to the society, setting off a furious weeklong controversy that pitted the council against the mayor, the state and the suburbs.

The Kilpatrick administration said the city can no longer afford the $5 million or so a year it costs to fund the zoo.

Late Friday, the mayor's office submitted a new plan to the council that could alleviate some of the members' concerns.

"The document that we sent today is the same in principle, but we are hopeful that the changes that were made will alleviate the concerns of both parties," Deputy Mayor Anthony Adams said.

"It is clear that no one in this community wants to see the Detroit Zoo closed."

The proposed transfer agreement includes:

All zoo employees would retain their positions, but the Zoological Society, not the city of Detroit, would be responsible for their salaries, pensions and health care coverage.

Detroit's financial obligation will be two payments of $900,000 from its general fund for insurance and security and two $5 million payments from its capital fund.

The council said it could vote on a new plan as early as Wednesday. It will hear an update of the plan at 11:30 a.m. Monday in the council chambers, 13th floor, Coleman A. Young Municipal Building, 2 Woodward Ave.

Nothing like closing a zoo   to help with diversity in the city and take away from  kids + adults a place to learn, dream, and be awed by something not human.

that is just the point there is no connection.
to deflect attention away from a bad move the city counsole representitives threw the race card when race had nothing to do with it.
they [the counsole memebers] felt that the aid proposed by the state, with the stipulation that the zoo maigment be changed to current detroit zoological socity members was equivelent to trying to own slaves.. wich it is (as any rational individual can see) not.
