Yeah, those Motor Wheel Spyders.  Vinyl tops looks great on some cars but the Daytona's and 500's aren't part of that group.

true  , none aero   second generations look good with a vinyl top , enhances the shape , lines etc  :Twocents: still look awesome with out one though  :yesnod: :drool5:

think vinyl tops on daytonas & C500s  sort of takes away the aero look & function ,  :Twocents:   although C500s look good with a vinyl IMO :yesnod:  just not Daytonas  :scratchchin:

Don't know exactly what I think.  Kinda looks like my hairline.
Who in their right mind would say

"The science should not stand in the way of this."?

Science is just observation and hypothesis.  Policy stands in the way.........

Or maybe it protects us.

I suppose it depends on the specific case.....

If that was Del's/Dale's, it looks much worse unless he got it this way and restored it. When I saw the car last back in '86/'87, it was a REAL nice looking Daytona, no vinyl at all and had Centerlines if I'm not mistaken....

My 69 RT/SE Charger had a Half Vinyl Top and custom paint from George Barris.  First saw it on the used car lot of Downey Dodge...when I went back the car had been repainted without the custom work....looked much better and I purchased it.  When I sold the car I removed the chrome for the half vinyl top and still have it in the garage.  By the way, the Charger was orange (before the duke boys) with a white half vinyl top, and tan interior......A General Lee with part of a vinyl top.....................

I wonder if there are any photos out there somewhere from before you bought it still wearing the Barris work?

Barris has a photo gallery and you can try email archive photo requests

I would doubt it as I have never run across any pictures of Mopars he did for customers.  I have seen some other makes with the same basic half-vinyl top hardware.  When I find pictures of my Charger (post Barris Paint) I will post them.  (as a side note, my father repainted the car around four years after I purchased it.....I gave it to my parents and they wanted the original brown color....He found out the hard way that Barris had used Lacquer paint on the car, and so his "standard" paint didn't adhere to several areas....namely the hood where the new paint started to seperate....He had to repaint, after removing more of the "Barris" paint.
(* the original Barris custom paint had a frame job type paint scheme..perhaps why it didn't sell on the lot.......)

And, I still have the "Barris Fender Crest Emblems" from my old '69, that he is now selling for $300.00.....glad my father took them off when he painted the car....
