Seat belt tag question

I guess ECS Automotive Concepts makes reproduction seat belt tags (at $15 each) but how do you know which number you would get? My '68 left the factory on January 8 so it seems like it could go either 1967-4 or 1968-1. Not that I'm going to spend $150 on 10 little white tags but I'd still like to know.

The guy that runs ECS is possibly one of the best qualified to answer that very question for you.

That is a monumentally astute suggestion. And prior to starting this thread I did ask him that very question. He didn't know.

Ghoste

Really?  That kind of surprises me.

Well, he said either one would probably work, if that's an answer. I don't think it's an answer (because I already figured that) but that's what I got.

Ghoste

He's a detail fanatic though so it may be one of those coin toss things.

Yea, I'll probably go with 1968-1 since it can apparently go either way, even though I suspect it's more likely 1967-4. Either way, by the time it's all said and done I'll probably have 490 extra tags to sell on Ebay.

may be   april 67 they started making a whole new batch for the 68 model year  ,  yours being built january would still have 67 belts ,   :scratchchin:
could see january 68 belts going in later build 68 cars , should the stocks of 67 belts be running out &  early 69 cars ,
just a guess , prolly me over thinking too much   & talking rubbish   :slap:,

still got my original rear belts &  were early 68  from memory ,  :scratchchin: will have to have a look !! :yesnod:

Ghoste

Yeah that seems like good reasoning to me as well Bull.  Go with the 67 coded tags.

just been to have a look

just for reference  mine is  SPD 22nd november 68

original to the car  rear belts are (pointer)  ,  the buckle part has 4-1968 tag   & the short bayonet or tongue part , no idea of the correct name , has  3-1968   &  so does the front side retractor parts 3-1968 ,

i know nothing to do with Bulls question but thought i would mention this
had to make up the shoulder belt parts &  buckle / tongue part  trans tunnel side from a green & black set  , i know going off track some what  ,  the  black shoulder belts i used came off a 69   roadrunner that had been rolled  ,  the buckles said american safety on the back ,  but identical to the pointer buckles  though  ,  & the green set had a mixture of both front & rear , & the same 69 dated tags from memory  :scratchchin:  :shruggy:

Bull, did you try contacting Bill Edwards?
He also restores seat belts & offers tags at a fraction of the cost of ECS. You might want to try him.

Yes, I did. Well, I sent him an email but no response yet. I ran across his info on moparts. Thanks. :2thumbs:

Bill Edwards never got back to me. :shruggy:

Anyway, does anyone have a pic of a reproduction or original 1967-4 tag they could post?

EDIT - nevermind. I just found this...

Ghoste

Does this mean you are thinking of reproducing your own of have found another potential source?

tylerk

FWIW, I tried contacting Mr. Edwards back around August or so and never heard back, either.

There are businesses out there that make tags for all sorts of things and I have started looking into that. One company sent me a bunch of samples and I sent them a pair of original tags (from a 72 Fury I believe) along with the photo above. If I end up getting some I'll probably have to do a minimum order of one style and number so I'll probably have extras to get rid of. Most likely I'll be going with 1967-4 rather than 1968-1.
