Is it just me or have Chevelle values really increased over the past few years?

Tom,

You just need to add an 70 El Camino SS 396 to your collection to complete it all.

That's just what I offered up as an idea to Diane. She just rolled her eyes. Men all know how vast the meanings can be of a simple wifely eye roll right? So I tried to embellish the idea by pointing out that an Elky would be easier for both of us to get into/out of, still have the benefit of a pickup to some degree AND get to enjoy that BB sound not to mention the attention it will draw.
She says, "we just bought the Silverado new......it's only got 6k miles on it yada yada yada.
I says, "yes that's true but a 69/70 Elky has real sheet metal and NO computers! I can actually work on it and it would look awesome parked next to the Charger".
I could hear the gears turning in her mind........I've got to be patient and not pushy.......I'll stealthily show her the occasional pictures of SS Elky's slowly subtlety helping her make the transition to my way of thinking.
Yes, gentlemen, we must be devious and cunning when dealing with the spousal units. Just sayin'

Buddy she can see right through you and knows your next move before you do.  Don't kid yourself, these female beings have a sixth sense we will never understand.   :icon_smile_big:

Just tell her that you really want one but if it's not possible then so be it.  Then give her a kiss and forget about the car.  If there's anything in her that agrees with you then it's only a matter of time.

Dino, you are so right but I do find the old addage of better to beg forgiveness than ask permission frequently has some truth.  Another stunt that I tried earlier this year with great success was with a new guitar.  I needed another guitar like I need octagonal tires carved from stone on all my vehicles but I HAD to have this one more.  So I bought it and then waited until we had a large family and friend gathering at the house, at that time I got it out and showed everyone telling them that SHE was the one who had bought it for me as a gift.  After everyone praised her for her loving selflessness and great taste in musical instruments she looked the other way as to its staying with the collection.  It likely wont work a second time but after a few years I may try it again.

I've done that...with a guitar!

The second time you try that trick she may be looking into the backyard though, trying to find a spot for ya.   :nana:

True that Dino..............she has me trained very well.

Same story at my house buddy and you know what?  Wouldn't want to trade it for anything in the world.  I sometimes think that the only reason we can sorta function in public is because we had that special training.   :smilielol:

I love my wife more than I could've ever imagined and I know you love yours dearly.  Sure it's nice to have new toys but in the grand scheme of things do we really need any more?

You can always do what I do guys.  When I want to buy something and I know it's a bad time and money isn't really there, I sell something else to cover the cost.  I recently sold a guitar to buy power window stuff.  Didn't really use the guitar anymore so now it's out of the way (too many instruments still laying around though) and I got what I wanted.

How about the COPO Chevelle?

1969 COPO Chevelles AKA a Malibu with an Attitude.  There were 323 COPO 427 engines produced for Chevelles.  That is not the number of cars built, just the number of engines built at Tonawonda.  99 of those 323 engines were installed in what would become Yenko modified Chevelles.  The number of non Yenko COPO cars is unknown.  A friend of mine has a real non Yenko COPO Chevelle with 4 build sheets.  I know of 4 other non Yenko COPO Chevelles.  There are not many out there.

Ghoste

An explosive little package though huh?  427 in a car with a much shorter wheelbase than B-body Mopar.

BlueSS454

Explosive indeed.  A CONSERVATIVE rating of 435 HP, M22 4 speed trans and a 4.10 rear with heat treated gears.

Yeh, Alberts green COPO is drop dead gorgeous!  Amazing car and amazing resto on it too!  The chambered exhaust finishes off the car nicely with a nice growl!

Twodko,

Dad has been toying with the idea of trading off his el camino to get another mopar in our barn.  Bluess454 actually came up and looked at it with a friend and took it for a spin.  Im sure he can comment on how the car is without any bias from me.

Ive found especially with the el caminos, its a love or hate relationship people have with them.  Me, I love em!  Best of both worlds in my opinion.

We have a 1967 Chevy El camino for sale if anybody is interested. It's the bosses car. Small block(383), powerglide w/ 12 bolt rear.

Car is pictured somewhere on here a while back. It's white, with light blue interior. Bench seat. Body is in Excellent shape. Asking 18K.

This is so true, some people seem to hate them with a passion, which I dont understand. (I can even love a rambler lolz-better then a honda!) But yea to me a chevelle is cool but more or less just a gm mid size sedan, which could be had in olds, buick, or chevy form... But a el camino is unique to chevy and it is a ute, so basically you had that and a ranchero and a ranchero is a pile compared to a elcamino..

It's the 21st century.  Any muscle car that is widely desirable can bring $20k, no matter how common.

I agree!!!!  Kinda odd me saying, but yes the muscle car era can get 20k plus since someone is out there willing to pay for it from 66 to 74 (68 to 70 peak) the cars can command a lot.
