HOW LONG DID YOU SEARCH FOR YOUR CHARGER????????????????????????????????????????

I was just wondering how long the average buyer looks for the average Charger..    Not really the guys looking for a specific car but just your average Charger buyer...  I was posting in another thread and noticed the OP has been looking for a car for about 7 years.   :o    He's not looking for a rare hard to find car either.  For me I looked half assed for about a year.  Came close to a all original 1 owner 68, had the cash in my pocket only to find out it was already sold.   :brickwall:     When I was 100% ready I found my car within a couple months.  My car was a rolling solid shell and I was happy to pay $5,500 for it back in 05'.

Anyway, just had me thinking with the market the last few years that the search for most is not long.    :shruggy:

I'll combine both of your answers: I was searching for about 6 months; this one fell into my lap & I had the cash.

I didn't look for my car, my dad did.  I think Skip spent more time looking for my pix then my dad did finding the car :nana:

I had thought by the wording there that you had found the car but your dad had no interest in helping you fix it up?

charger_fan_4ever

About 2-3 months back in 2007-08.

These wanted ads on the board make me laugh. Craigslist, cars online, ebay there are a fair number of cars out there everyday of the week that can accomodate all budgets from basket case to trailer queen.

Major problem is people want a deal and a lot of sellers think their car is the best barn find there is$$.

If both parties were more realistic and buyers really had $$ there would be no need for all the wanted ads.

I find most people are looking for that "unknown" barn find time capsule thats for sale for 1/2 of what its worth.

My dad found the car.  Life happens and he lost interest in it, I didn't.  At least my dad wanted me to have my dream car.

Wasn't looking until I saw what a Buddy that I ended up 'Buying' my car from, did to a GL. THEN, I asked about "That old red Charger in the woods"..

A day later, one fall off trailer into the creek, one 440 Engine block later, It was "mine"....2 1/2 years later, it was a GL with "Correct" decals.

i waited about a year to see what dodge was going to put out for a charger, and then when that was crap, it took another year of looking, but i scored an big block arizona car with factory disk brakes

Lemme think...sold the other 69 in May 2011 and didn't look for another for quite a while.  I looked at a ton of ads but never found what I was looking for so eventually let it rest and just put a wanted ad on CL and on this site.  Got lots of cars that were the opposite of what I was looking for on both sites until one day before my CL ad would expire again someone did contact me and had the car I was looking for.  It was several months of looking and several months of just renewing the ad but not looking.

Car was half an hour from me as well, sometimes it pays off to wait.
Extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence.

I was looking for 2 years, spent many hours driving all over Ontario and Quebec.  Finally, found a good solid California car and five years to restore.  :2thumbs:

I searched for about a year in Denmark, and looked a 2 chargers here, a '70 and a '68.. Both were way overpriced for the work they needed, so started looking in the US.. It seemed a bit overwhelming, and I was scared to death about being scammed or buying a pile of junk covered in fresh paint.. Ended up hirering a guy i California to find me a car.. It took him a month or two, where he showed me 2 other Chargers, that I didn't like, and then he found the Charger I have now.. It took some 8 months or so from there before I could pick it up in Denmark..

I didn't know I wanted a charger until my brother drove a 74 Charger home, I decided right then I had to have this car.  So less than a minute, is this a record?   Robert

I didnt spend much time activily "looking" because that would mean I had the $$ to potentailly buy.
(which I did not)
I did however spend alot of time dreaming about a charger. I made friends with guys who had project chargers and eventually drugg my 69 project out of a barn. Paid $2,500 which I was happy with. Amazing what happens when you treat others right. Its better then having loads of cash.

Just like at the strip joint.....I looked for a while, then one fell on my lap.

Back in the late '80s, my brother got a basket case red '70 Super Bee, 4 speed, white guts car from a local guy that bought and sold alot of Mopars (but the guy's personal collection is mostly Chargers; he has a purple '70 R/T SE 4 speed 6 pak car, a HEMI car, and some others).

I watched my bro restore his car and that got me kicking around for a couple years buying some kind of Mopar, and I finally settled on a 2nd gen Charger, but didn't really have the year nailed down.

The guy my bro got his car from knew I was in the market, so when a car that he thought was pretty good came along, he called me up.   Solid, low miles survivor type '68 R/T, Oklahoma car (surface rust only)....price $6,000 in November 1992.  A little pricey considering how many parts I ended up redoing and replacing because I have some kind of mental illness, :image_294343:

It was back in 1966 that I started looking for my car as I was on my way back to the US of A from Vietnam on board USS COONTZ DLG9, when I realized that I would be getting out of the NAVY January 13 1967, and I needed a car when I got out, so I sent my brother $500.00 for a down payment on "Ole Red".  The car was in the show room window of Bick Long Motors when I got home.  The total wait time was 3 months from the time I decided to buy the car, to the time when I first saw the car.

Once I had the money, I probably looked for a year.  My challenge was trying to find something that needed restoration but wasn't a rolling shell within a decent towing distance of where it was going to be restored, which is 3 states away.   I found a (mostly) complete big-block car 30 mins from the shop and had it checked over then bought it.

Once he got into it, some of the body panels weren't as solid as they'd appeared at first (sound familiar?) and I realized I'd overpaid.   In the grand scheme of things, overpaying a few grand on the project car doesn't bug me that much.   It's just money being spent on a luxury anyway and it could have been far worse.    Next time around I'll know what to look for more closely on a b-body - lesson learned :)

never searched very hard, just kept one eye open.  and then after only 40 years one came up that was close and in my price range (cheap).

From 1979 to 2004.  Couldn't afford much when I was a kid, and noone wanted to sell.  Got busy with the Army from 1989 to well, still busy, but being overseas curtailed my searching for a long time.  Got a decent full time job once I switched from active duty to Guard, had a little cash to spend.  Finally got mine off ebay for $7100.00 in June of 2004.

Tomorrow is promised to no one.......drive your Charger today.

Just happened upon it quite by accident. When I saw it was an unmolested and complete Arizona car..........I had to have it.

Back in 92 my buddy asked me to help him get this old sh!t box running. A Dodge what? Never heard of it but OK sure I will help you. Any how after about a month of working on it I got it going. My buddy was sick of it and I thought it was neat. $750 later it was mine

Three years.
I bought a junk house with potential while dating this one girl and the relationship fell through. So while fixin It up decided to flip it and use the money on a car. I bought the house and nine Acres of Land for 40 grand and fixed the old farm house up and sold it for 90 grand. Not bad. But after parts and paying my self labor I profited 20 grand. Or a 69 charger.

Guy named Moe told me about it back in my senior year of high school, I went and looked at it then my parents bought it for me as a graduation present. It was $800 so it wasn't exactly mint but it was mostly complete.
So it fell in my lap. ;)

Searched for about 3-4 months for my 70 back in 1983, found it only about 60 miles from my home. Bought my second one from a sale ad on this site last fall, wasn't really looking very long at all...maybe a couple of months. Bought my third one which is a project from about 10 miles away this spring. Heard about it from my Brother in Law and went to check it out in early April, owner told me he was waiting on another buyer that he had promised the car to and if that didn't happen by May 1st he would give me a call. Guess the other buyer didn't close the deal and I ended up with Charger number three by May 10th or so.

Back in '92 I looked for about 3 months before I bought my '69 (which I restored and later sold), but I was also checking out E-body cars.  (I also bought a junky 72 'Cuda that was a 340/4spd car but had had a 383 in it.)

I've been 'monitoring' Chargers now for most of the year.  Wife and I are looking to buy a house and one of my requirements is a garage space for a Charger.  House down payment (and hence less money for a car) and size of garage are competing interests - and will help determine where I buy on the driver/project/basket case scale.  We'll be buying the house her in the first quarter of 2013.  I'm targeting next summer to actually get a Charger again.

Ghoste

For the 67 I didn't look for it at all, it found me.  Any other Chargers I have had in the past or may be currently harboring have been all over the map as far as the amount of time required to find them from a short of a few weeks to a long of a few months.

Once my wife and I decided we wanted a muscle car and set a budget we spent 8 months looking.  Figured we'd have to go Chevy for a driver, but found this charger on Craigslist as a project and kept going back to it.  It was 6 hours from us but only 1-1/2 from my folks, so while visiting 2 years ago, we drove up to see how bad it was.... It was definitely more of a project than we were planning, but we kept saying "when we're done it will be the charger we always wanted"... Better than instant driver of a lesser muscle car!  :shruggy:   Negotiated over 4 days while on vacation and sent the guy a deposit to hold it.   Was up the next week with a uhaul rental trailer and we've now got over a year of restoring under out belt.  Of course we "thought" it needed more work than we were ready for and now that we're elbow deep... We are 4 times deeper than expected, but 10 times happier each time we walk into the garage!!  :2thumbs:  driving it Down the street last week was AMAZING!!  We have restored so many parts we cannot wait to get it off to paint and then jump on putting everything back on!

chev broke down on me so i got a friend to go look at cars.we went to the GM store to look at a transam. did not like the rubber bumper. than we went to the mopar store and ordered my 1968 charger in about 20 min. the company transfered me a year later from syrcuse ny  to wayland ny and while looking for a house in wayland we were hit head on and that was the end of my charger.
than my son was in the air force in phonix in 1980   and he called and told me there were 17 chargers for sale there so i told him to buy the best one and drive it home. than i was driveing in the town here in new york and saw a 66 charger and bought that the same day

Just about 10 years and it still is not the Charger I started out looking for.....
Started looking for one of my Dads old 70 Chargers in late 2003.  He always wanted a B5 blue 70 but had a beige one and a white with blue interior.   After a year or so of looking for his old cars, I started looking at every 70 Charger I could find for sale.  My wife and I moved several times across the state and I continued to look for a good 70.   Just never found one that I thought was the right deal.  Either the car was way out of my price range or the car was a basket case, but not much in between.   I probably have looked at 15-20 70 Chargers and still have come up empty handed.  So fast forward to 2010....the Thursday before Christmas.  I looked online at my Dads hometown paper and saw an ad for a 71 Charger.   Dad went to look at it and called me while he was out in the snow looking at it.  He said "If you don't buy this one, I am".   I asked how good of shape it was in and his reply was...."well its not a 70 but it is the right color".  So I bought it.   It is now "almost ready for the road".  :2thumbs:  But "one of these days" I am going to find a good 70.....even if I have to trade every car I have for one. :smilielol:
