$650 for a friggin' alternator.  This hobby is getting more ridiculous by the minute... :rotz:

Couldn't agree more Dino. Couldn't agree more... But I do not think he is gonna get $650. It's been listed for a long time.

Well you never know, there's a sucker born every minute.  Whenever I look for parts and encounter the nos stuff I just cringe.  Who in his right mind decides that a 'nos' light switch is worth $500 while the survivors in great shape go for less than $50?  This whole nos thing is such a scam it pisses me off.

If you're looking for a stock alternator, there's about a gazillion available right here from members who upgraded theirs.  If you can wait a while I'll sell you mine for next to nothing.

If you think $650 is crazy for an alternator... Why not try that freakin plastic pin which operates the backup light switch on column shift cars. The last guy I talked to asked $85. He did however include shipping and it was a NOS part.  45 year old plastic part for $85, sounds reasonable? :icon_smile_big:

Sure, in lalaland!  That's just nuts, you can get that thing in the local junk yard out of any column shift Chrysler from the era.

Look up "plumcrazygarage.com"
I've never owned anything but a MoPar. Can you say that?

You'd think he'd at least offer free shipping at that price.

I was buying NOS alternators off of Bill Rolik for years at 125-150 a pop.....he is long since out of them.

That restored(?) alternator doesn't look near right for that price. Actually - it looks like an over blasted hunk of......

I know some Hemi alternators are getting near 2000.00 in any decent condition.

If you want to play - you sometimes gotta pay.....not in this case though

That alternator is not restored correctly. Improper case finish and no date codes on the diodes, just off the top of my head.

If you want a correct restored alternator, contact Jim Ridge of Dixie Restorations at 803-924-6247. He gets around $250 to do your core, or he has cores if you don't. Several of his have gone through OE judging, so if that's your bag, he's the man. He has a great reputation on Moparts also, if you want to double check.

What's the difference between a Hemi alt and say a 440 or 383 alt?

Depends on the year, but typically, the front pulley.
