For sale I have a 1969 Dodge Charger 500, (True 500). This car is very rusty and needs quaters, trunk floor, frame rails, and tail light panels. It is a rolling chassy. There is no engine or transmission currently in it. I do have a clean title in hand.

His pictures leave little to be desired. Doesn't make for a good selling point.
But $10K is good for a project '69 500 for sure.

I thought 500's were R/T's, guess not!

They started life as R/T's, but had the standard "arrow" emblem at the rear with the 500 emblem at the right corner.

So they still have the R/T drivetrain and suspension and such, just not the emblems?  Any particular reason why it was done that way?

From a powertrain and running gear point of view they were the same as the RT so it was easiest to take an RT off the line and send it over to Creative to have the aero package installed.  In the very earliest part of the program the intention was for them all to be Hemi cars as well so that may also have something to do with it.

The VIN is the key; 500's (and Daytonas) start off with XX29 vs. XS29 (for the R/T). As to my speculation for the reasoning as to why it was done that way.........

because they were never intended to be R/T's.

After restoring a car that needed all the panels in the future I would shell out more for a better body to start with. Mind you 500's are scarce. There is one in the aero section for ~$18k. Body is in better shape a red car.

When your down to changing framerails its getting $$$ and time consuming.

The car in question was posted in the for sale section and in the aero for over a month now. I believe someone said there is no fender tag or buildsheet also no drivetrain. I don't think its going to sell like a hotcake in this day and age. People look at the car and say thats going to cost atleast $50k to get back on the road.

There were a few early C500's that left with XS29 on the Vin #.

:popcrn: yeah that lasted a wk and sold, so clearly the price was completely to high....  :nana:

White stripe on green car is not that bad.
I would hope it will not become a parts car, but looked very rusty and some of the parts are "priceless" to the guys building Daytonas and other 500 owners.  I hope it is saved somehow without a full rebody.

Sincerely,
Peter Pan

Yea, that threw me for a loop the first time I saw a XS29 with an A11 package on a tag.

Or,   is it an RT with a conversion package

See, they should've called it an R/T 500.  It would be priceless right about now.   :icon_smile_big:

440 hemi is nothing!  Mine has the double sided translucent windows AND the power headliner.  Now that is value right there!
