I always liked the El Caminos & Rancheros. I think the Coronet line would have been the perfect car to do this. I had a 72 Coronet wagon that had me thinking why Chrysler never did this. Do you guys thing they should have made one & what line would be your choice?

billfury

I'm not crazy about this one but may be one of you like it.

I didn't mind the actual Rampage but that one doesn't do much for me.  The 2nd gen bodylines just don't lend themselves well to being messed with.  There was a 1st gen style one that was making the rounds a few years ago.  It wasn't something I would have likely done but I didn't hate it either.  I have pics somewhere but by the time I find them someone will post theirs I'm sure.

That 71 300 that got morphed into a 300-H "thing that never was" is right at the top of my "Dang, I want that car!" list.

For some reason the 1967 mock-up looks pretty cool.  :yesnod:  It could've done well against Ford and Chevy. :icon_smile_wink:

My first "drivable" car was a el camino. My first project (read rustpile) was a 59 chevy which as ya'll know was the first year el camino. So of course I've always loved them (so much so I even put up with rancheros lol). But yea if chrysler had their head straight we would indeed have a badass mopar ute here in the us.

What Chrysler should have done was make the '62 Valiant into a half truck. Now that would have been cool.  :icon_smile_cool:

The B-body design as an "elky" just doesn't work for me.  :rotz:

rumour has it the el camino will make a comeback

we've got the Ranchero equivalent, too, but ford won't let us send you any.

I would of like the taillights in the body.I never liked it when they put the taillights in the bumper.

XS29L9Bxxxxxx

They did, but it wasn't as cool as the Ranchero, El Camino, or the GMC Sprint...  :Twocents:

They have a big following today and bring good $$$, too. :shruggy:
I've never owned anything but a MoPar. Can you say that?

A383Wing

yea..no kidding...even rough ones are big $$ up here...I was looking into a Rampage a while back...if I got one, I would pull the nose off my Shadow and put it on the rampage. The original nose on the Rampage id butt ugly, but the rest of the little truck is kinda cool to me

It was featured in MCG about 100 years ago. It sure was a prettyful thing. I fell in love instantly!

another classic 2 door that's going to get butchered into a 4 door

Butchering...?  Have you read the article...?  They're talking about using a rear wheel drive platform (either a 450HP Corvette engine or twin turbo Buick power!).  This could be awesome.  :2thumbs: :2thumbs:

The performance part sounds great but a 4 door. I'm with Mauve66 about the butchering.

mauve66

yes, the 4 door part
i'm not rabid like some but i don't like the fact that the charger got 4 doors, doesn't matter that it can run like a scalded dog
i don't like that the 911 got 4 doors but at least they gave it another name instead of 911-4
if they can build a hotrod  60-70K 2 door for rich folks  http://www.cadillac.com/cts-v-sport-coupe.html (oh look, they actually give you more than 4 colors to choose from also) they would sell alot more of them thereby offsetting any costs if they built a hotrod 2 door to the 20-30K crowd, and a pony car is just that, not a full size car with 2 doors (they just look better than 4 door cars do, plain and simple)
compare a 2 door GN or t-type Regal to a 4 door of the same year and its not even close.
everyone says the manufacturers are making what the majority of the people want, no their not, their making what keeps their costs down (fewer body styles) and we just end up buying what is there 'cause its all there is

With regard to the Buick GNX article, they're not butchering an existing model.  If it goes to market it will be based on a new (or existing Cadillac) platform.  Yes, I understand you guys are pissed that it's going to have 4-doors.....But the fact is the two door market is dead in USA unless its a Corvette, Camaro, Mustang, or Challenger.  :Twocents:

HPP

I'm not too hip with the Elco design, but I sure wish Dodge made a full size SUV, ala Suburban or Expedition.

mauve66

the 2 door full size market is dead in USA??? there are several 2 door cars that aren't pony cars but you better have 60K to get them
there isn't even one model for us to choose from, all it does is save the manufacturers money on excess parts inventory/production.

a pony car isn't big enough for me to get in and out of comfortably (i like driving my sons '12 camaro but getting in and out makes me want to just take my ranger instead)

a full size 4 door doesn't look right and a 2 door version would have a longer door and the seat farther back AND WOULD LOOK BETTER, think BMW 850i, any Aston Martin, audi A5, Jaguar XK, any maserati,
oh yeah, another thing all of these cars have is POWER, and i'm not talking windows either

i need to get rich i guess so i can buy a full size 2 door with power

That niche is too small of a market to compete in.  They have a hard enough time with the Durango.

HPP

True. Which is why there will probably always be a chevy in my driveway next to my dodge.

billfury

I know it's just a model, but what do you think of this?

Paul G

What was the SSR besides a huge blunder? It was even worse at being a car/truck than the El Camino was. I don't really see a market for one, unless they come up with something that is purposeful and looks really cool. The Rampage had a bed that was too small to be purposefull, and as a two seater was not really cool, under powered.
