All the standard stuff- pay off bills, kid's college loans, help the family and friends and a couple charities.
Than I'd start with the cars!   A Charger from every year, 66-87, a couple E bodies, a nice B body vert, etc.. then find a 66 or 67 Chevelle and Moparize it- a nice 340 or 360, A-833, 8 3/4 with leaf springs in the back, etc.. Then maybe some R/T badges where the SS ones would go?  Mopar interior, gauges, etc.. everything GM gone except the frame and sheet metal!

Can we come up from under the floor boards?

Tomorrow is promised to no one.......drive your Charger today.

First thing I'd set my dad up with a brand new Caddy (he's always been a GM guy) and buy him a house and give him a fat knot to retire on.   He took care of me for 18 years and gave me so many opportunities as a kid that I didn't understand how to appreciate back then, but I do now.

Depending on how much money it was, I'd obviously grab a few choice Mopars (finish my '68, grab a '71RR and a 'Cuda) and a sweet crib with a huge garage/shop to put them in.   After that I'd make multiple investments with residual income as others mentioned for a constant cash flow like apartment housing or high-margin franchises like gyms.   Whatever's left I'd set up a charitable fund to help the truly needy and spend my time raising funds for that.  I've always had a soft spot for special needs kids and would love to be in a position to make a difference there.

Also I'd buy a giant mountain of coke like scarface and snort it.  Ok, I'm kidding about that last part.

Well, it's my favorite GM body style, but it's saddled with all the other GM junk!
I've owned  severaal Chevys (my confession) but had horrible luck- One could have been a lemon, Two is a heck of a coincidence but four- naah!  And I've always been impressed with a nicely built small block.  The 833 beats the heck out of the vaunted GM M-22 "Rock Crusher", the 8 3/4 will beat a 12 bolt,  etc... It's the Chevelle that Ma Mopar would have built! And imagine pulling that into a Mopar show- our club states any cars must be Mopar powered, it would turn some heads!  Maybe even paint it orange with an 01 on the doors?  :icon_smile_big:
Of course a 440 in a 58 Impala would be nice too!

I'd send my Charger, Duster and Coronet straight to a shop to get done exactly the way I want them. Then I'd go buy a house......and a SRT8 Challenger.....then a Daytona Charger :)

I've no idea. I'd sit on it for a while, collect my thoughts and take it from there.

:iagree: 5 Mil isn't a lot of money, in the grand scheme of things. Not enough to quit working, as if I really labor each day, anyways...  :Twocents:

Given 5 seconds more of thought, I'd probably take at least 1/2 and put into one of my retirement plans and the rest, make it rain...

Tilar

umm, Turn it all in to $1 bills, get naked and roll around in it with a fine looking woman!  :yesnod:  OR,  Pay off my bills as far as I could and refinance the rest? :2thumbs:

Actually I was thinking about this when this last powerball jackpot got up over 500 million. You could easily give 1 million each to everyone in your family and those you personally know (and like) and still live really good.

You couldn't retire on 5 mil????  You must have one hell of a lifestyle.   :icon_smile_big:     I could easily retire with 1 mil and I wouldn't have to be stingy either.

I think the bigger question would be . . . If you hit the lotto, how many people would you tell that you hit the lotto?   :scratchchin:
Tomorrow is promised to NOBODY . . . .

JB400

It would probably take a year before anyone would figure out that I hit it big.  I'd hold off on the big expenditures for a while and phase them in one at a time over an extended period to keep suspicion down.

Nope, 5 Mil. isn't enough to retire on at my age. And besides, I would not be content just sitting around at home, anyways.

Damn man, what sort of lifestyle do you think you need?  :icon_smile_question:   I'm soon to be 56 years old and havent made anywhere near a million yet, and I highly doubt i'd require another half million to live out the rest of my short life.

Presuming one started work at 22 years old and was 56, they would have made $29k/yr, each yr., and be just under the 1 Mil. mark as a cumulative total. In that case, 5 Mil. would probably suffice. While I don't have an extravagant lifestyle, I don't think I've ever made less than $29k/yr, not even in my first year of working, many moons ago...

If I had 20 Mil. in winnings, I'd probably be fine to quit work. For that kinda coin, I'd probably still need a hobby though...
