Anyone here an addict when it comes to collecting?

Who else is an addict?

I've been collecting things of a certain type for 20+ years, but haven't been lately as such. Recently I got the bug again and not sure what to do, I need to save money for the Charger but I can't seem to help myself when it comes to certain things. Of course I will save more than I spend but it will still slow things down a bit.

Not so much an addict as an obssessive.  I have collected a few things but the itch was less about accumulating than having the "perfect combination" of certain articles.  I have a very modest group of guitars and amps, a fair size pile of SRV bootlegs, a nice selection of automotive sales literature, a large pile of anything Charger.  But there are no sets of things I had to have nor a constant need to be always getting the next thing on the list, it just sort of gathers around me.

i use to buy aluminum cans a 6 pack at a time & empty them, then leave them laying all over the house, garage, front yard, & some in the driveway. :smilielol:
i tried collecting girlfriends but soon found out that was dangerous when they found out about each other  :shruggy:

I don't have a need to get the next big thing either and I don't search for hours, but if something crossed my path that I like I'll buy it if the price is right. Usually it's something rarer, unique or in exceptional condition. I wouldn't buy something in poor condition just for the sake of buying it.

There are collectors who are like that though.  They'll buy the bad one and continue to search for a better one.  I think some people like the collectible and others like the collecting.  I would consider the "thrill of the hunt" types to more the addict style.

i'm jim and i'm an addict   i collect car parts any and all    my wife calls it my rusty metal collection  my latest prize was an old bugle horn from a 1910's car  found it on an old burn pile when digging a basement

I have the usual car memorabilia as well.  I might by a Hot Wheels car every now and then but a lot of my stuff comes as gifts from other people.  Car magazine collection is a little on the thick side, but I cut that out for the most part.  I just read them at the store.

Yeah I collect...............started out with the Hotwheels and stuff like that and have went to different things. Collecting radios mostly now. Usually they are the vacuum tube types. I am also a ham radio operator and have surrounded myself with several of the classic radios from various brands.   I then usually try and get all the paperwork that goes with the radio. Operators and service manuals as well as sales lit if its available.

Been starting to collect old license tags. Staying with Iowa and Kansas. My home state and the state I live in now.

I went to high school with a kid that was a bit of a trouble maker, into dirtbikes etc. His dad was fairly well off and he collected Tiffany lamps. He would always bring 2 - 3 home with him. I have never seen so many lamps. Always remember thinking it was a bit odd.

Yep, that would be me. I wouldn't say I was a hoarder by any means but I collect Coin Operated Pinball and Video games and have started into Old cars now. The problem isn't so much that I collect the stuff but I can't seem to find the time to actually work on any of it. So I end up buying more because it makes me feel like I am giving it more attention. I also picked up another motorcycle last month. Good thing I am trying to throw some stuff out.  I have my Uncles Lionel trains, used to be big into HO trains.  :slap:

I try as hard as I can to establish a great big collection of money, but for now my collection is modest at best.   I keep trading my dollars for Chargers and Jeeps and other baubles.   I guess I'm doomed :P

Up until roughly five years ago I had a 1200 sq foot basement packed top to bottom with Star Wars toys, hundreds of ships, thousands of figures. Nearly everything has been sold off.  I still however collect shoes. . .Jordans are the largest part. Roughly 40 pair, so not too many I guess.

That's quite the collection, mine spans about 2 rooms but not packed solid.

That's pretty crazy, do you miss any of it? When you see Star Wars toys for sale do you still think about buying them or I had that?

My collecting habit started as a kid. First Hot Wheels, the models, then back to Hot Wheels, models again, then diecasts, & finally cars & parts.
Now, I limit my collecting to only Charger diecasts, but even that has just about stopped & I can't even remember when I bought my last one.

I like to hunt for rare parts, or stuff I want or need for my car. Thrill of the chase I guess, & lots of patience.

Yup I have been collecting since about age 10, first hotwheels, redlines, and then old car parts. At age 14 I bought a '59 chevy wagon and developed a taste for '59-60 gm products. I would not be able to afford the car I wanted so I just bought parts, I remember being about 15 and dropping $600 (my own cash) in a single day at the swap meet. I now have alot of 59 chevy parts go figure.. lol. I did smarten up and a stash away some 58 plymouth stuff aswell. I also have a bunch of old litireture pertaining to 59 pontiacs and chevys along with a box of bagged old hot rod mags from '57-65 ruffly. I love to go junkyarding and so I have assorted parts from those experiances aswell. I once found a '59 chevy wagon sooo rusty I was able to tear off one of the gullwing fins with my bare hands
(and Im a weakling) I kept it to remind me just how rusty ohio cars can get.

Oh I also enjoy collecting/tinkering with old peddle mopeds, my choice bikes being old puchs from the 70s, had about 15 at one point now have only 3 but they are the cream of crop... Once I got bittin by the mopar bug the fun really began I bought 2 69 charger grills just cause I like how they look on my garage wall haha.

I collect Breyer horses, shot glasses from around the world, and sleighs!

I collected Ho scale trains for the longest time, probably close to 30 years. After they threatened to overwhelm the spare bedroom and spill out into the hallway I finally decided to slowly start selling them. It just got to the point where I became sure that I was never going to build a model RR and my Wife and Kids had no idea as to the value of any of them and it seemed beyond crazy to basically "horde" them forever. It was a fair amount of value just sitting around the house for no real reason...except my obsession . The first couple that sold were difficult, but the money they generated was great, I still have about 100 items left that I will probably move on ebay after the holidays. Now when I look at them all I see is $$. Now if I could only convince my Wife to part with some of her collectables we probably could afford the 70 V-code Runner or GTX I'd like to add to my car collection :yesnod:.

I used to collect a lot of stuff, many vintage Superman items.  I got rid of most everything, keeping only one box with sentimental value crap (all Superman).  I guess my priorities shifted after I moved here and got married.  Now all I want is my wife and cats close to me, a running (very important) charger in the garage, and for my college carreer to continue as it is so I can become a physician's assistant and make more money.   :icon_smile_big:

I've also been selling off my musical instruments one by one, I just don't need all of this stuff anymore.  This material crap at one point starts to own you instead of the other way around, and I'm much happier with less stuff these days.

In fact...I think I'll get rid of all the other stuff...

My uncle growing up collected many antique things so i started young as well. I have a fair sized Kiss Colletion. As a matter of fact I sold my Gene Simmons Axe bass to buy my current Charger. I have a few hundred Hot Wheels and the like. My wife works at a toy store so she allways gets me the cool ones. Ha. The biggest thing though im into is Guitars though. I usually have between 20-40 at any givin time. I cant get enough of them. Id buy them all if i could...   :)

Want one more?  Trying to get rid of everything.  I have a '96 Korean Squier protone fat strat.  I'm sure you know about them.

Never heard of Kiss as being antique but I guess the clock is ticking.

I saw Simmons' axe bass in a R&R museum a few years ago, pretty wild.

Would love to see pictures, sounds like you guys have some cool stuff. I have a bunch of R/C airplanes/cars/boats, trains, and legos from when I was a kid. They're all up in my attic room now. They took a backseat to cars when I turned 15. Now I have six different cars and Im done adding for a long time according to my friends, family, and girlfriend.
