Paint strainers.... Are they different for auto vs wood stain?

Okay... Silly question, but I had to ask.
So often, I need some little thing whan my local automotive paint store is closed. There is an ACE hardware store within a mile from me so they get the nod.
Last week I bought some paint strainers since I was running low. Today I was looking at them and it appears that the filter mesh is coarser than the ones I get from the paint store. I went ahead and used them. Bad move. There were a few bits of "something" that landed in the paint in a few spots. Now i get to wait for it all to dry, sand out the flaws and REshoot.
Is it my imagination or is there a difference in strainers?

big difference..the auto strainers are a finer mesh...if you would have used an auto strainer, you would not be doing it over
