Help with a Christmas Present for my Dad?

I want to paint a picture of my dad's favorite car from when he was younger for a Christmas present for him.  He has mentioned many times that he wishes he hadn't sold his Dodge Charger, wishes he could buy one, etc.  So during Thanksgiving, I stole some pictures of old cars that I found from the era that he had the car (I know he had it when my parents married in 1981).  The problem is that I'm a girl and not so good at identifying cars.  I want to be sure to paint the right car, and there are several that look pretty much the same to me.  I've scanned some of the pictures and was hoping that perhaps you could help me figure out which one is the right one and maybe even help evaluate the sketches and painting as it progresses for things that I should change.  So...here are the stolen pictures.  I have a few more, but these are the different cars (at least the ones I can tell apart, if you can tell me which one, I can scan the others I have of it).

This is the first, and if I had to guess, would be the one...based solely on the fact that it is an 8x10 and was in a frame, while the others are small snapshots.  But, I have no idea what year it was taken.

Pretty sure this is not it, but it was taken during the right years anyway.

Car #3 is the Charger.  I am not too familiar with those years.  Maybe a 1977.

They made the the Charger from 1966-present with a few years off here and there.  Several different body styles, colors and trim packages over the years.  Finding out which year he had would be helpful, or even a actual picture of his old car.

Unfortunately I don't know the year of the car, picture #3 was taken in 1979.  He had it in 1981 when my parents were married.  I'm trying to piece things together from that information, and would guess it was mid to late 70's.

Those are all pictures taken of his or his family's cars during the time when he had the Charger.  So if Car #3 is the Charger, then that is an actual picture of his Charger.  Unfortunately, that car, I have only two pictures, the one I scanned/posted and one showing the interior (which doesn't help much with the painting of the outside).

Is that a Charger or Cordoba, the Charger looked the same as the Cordoba after 74

Hi Amber, I can help you out.  :2thumbs:

#1 and #2 are the same car  - a 1966 Dodge Polara

#3 is a 1975 or 1976 Dodge Charger SE (both years looks the same)

#4 is a 1976 or 1977 Dodge Aspen SE  (both years look the same)

How can you tell?  The only reason I guessed 77 is because it does not have the vents over the back quarter windows, and every 75 and 76 (except Daytona) I have seen has vents over them.  I am not trying to be a smart-a$$, I do not know these years very well and it is just hard for me to tell them apart, and I was curious.

I'm on Google Images now, so these aren't my dad's exact car, I'm trying to compare them to the one he has...

I think this is the exact same car as my dad's, down to the color, the only difference that I can see is the pin stripe this one has that his doesn't have - http://i185.photobucket.com/albums/x164/motoguy123/003.jpg
This one looks like it has a "thicker" body than the picture of my dad's, or is that the angle? - http://www.mclellansautomotive.com/photos/B35314.jpg
Very similar to my dad's - http://www.mclellansautomotive.com/photos/B35240.jpg
From a magazine or something, but I think the same body - http://carphotos.cardomain.com/ride_images/3/2886/3105/32214052142_large.jpg
This page has several pictures, but looks again, "thick" and obviously had a different top - http://www.moparmusclemagazine.com/featuredvehicles/b_body/1977_dodge_charger_daytona/photo_06.html

So...are those all Chargers?

The dealer book has good pictures, I like those, thanks for sharing!

Now I guess I know where my affection for Dodge comes from...though I'm more of a Dakota kind of person myself.  Or a Viper...in my dreams!

Instead of trying to find an actual picture of his car, just find out what year of charger he had and what color it was.  Then, you can find a better quality pic of the car and paint it the same color as his.  You might also ask if it had any custom touches as well.  That would be your only hiccup as far as a personalized ride.  Good luck and show us a picture of your work when your done :2thumbs:

For now, yes!  Thank you all so much.  I have to finish one other Christmas present sketch before I start on my dad's but I'll be posting as I progress...

Glad we were able to help.  Your dad is lucky that someone in his family is interested in his favorite cars :2thumbs:
