Guys,

Is this website accurate - does anyone know?

http://brcook.com/id17.html

It is saying my car is #999.  Too bad the paint code isn't that! :yesnod:
Yes, Brennan Cook (aka Arnie Cunningham on this site) is full of great info on Superbird numbers :2thumbs:
He also owns a Superbird he bought when he was 16 if I remember right.

Sweet, thanks guys!  Kind of cool - 999.   Just wish it was Petty Blue. :brickwall:

Worked on the beast last weekend for a few hours, and going to hit it tomorrow again.   :2thumbs:

Going to look at the wiring situation further and also start cleaning up the engine compartment.   Lack of funds is going to put the Bird in line for the full restoration, but still hope to get it completed prior to the Taladega meet in 2014.  For this year, get it "road ready" and get some miles on the old girl.

Yeah Mike, it is starting to get warm enough to work now here in IL.  :2thumbs:

Replaced the pinion seal in mine last weekend to stop the leak.

New steering gear box showed up today so I can stop that leaking :)

Old 383 is ready to come out and rebuilt 440 almost ready to go.  Will be cutting it close to our May show, but hope to have everything done.

Can't wait to see your car next to mine.

I'm thinking of changing my red stripes to matt black. Looking at yours, is that grey or black? You wouldn't have a close up pic of yours so that I can get a better look, would you?

Fred, mine is painted and under the clear.  Here are some pictures in the rebuild thread-

The stripe is 50% black paint with 50% metal flake.

Well, took the car out today and went through it pretty well.  I decided on plan B which will include pulling the engine going through it, repainting the engine compartment, new wiring throughout, detailing here and there.  The rest of the paint is not bad, so I don't want to go down the full restoration route yet.  Funds are limited right now anyways.

Here are some pictures of today-

Haven't traced these wires yet... Wonder what this was for back in the day.

Thanks mate. That looks fantastic.  :2thumbs:   Great idea. It never even occurred to me at the time and just as well it didn't or I wouldn't be able to change my mind now lol.

Brake light kill switch?

I used to work in crane rental.  I was an oiler (operator apprentice), didn't really want to be an operator.  For $3 less an hour I didn't need the stress.

Anyhoots, the owners' of the company loved to see their cranes all dolled up.  Putting tire shine on & polishing any aluminum was usually enough to convince folks the whole crane was like that.

Although I must say mine always were.

Watch someone's head & eyes sometime at a show when a car pulls up.
