Shifter rods different from 68-70 compared to71-74?

I am putting a 1971 charger 4speed transmission in a 1968 charger. I am going to need shift rods, so which kind do I get?? 68-70 or 71-74? Also wondering about the clutch pedal spring, what the difference is on Small block to Big block? I need to get some of this confusion out of the way, so I can start getting the Beast back together. You will need to get the 68-70 rods. The shifter is in a different spot than the 3rd gens. There should be two mounts for the shifter on the tranny. The 68-70 B body uses the front mount and the 71-74 B and E bodies use the rear mount.

I don't know if the shifter mounting pad off the '71 is the same as the 68-70 piece. This is the piece that bolts to the tranny and then the shifter mechanism bolts to it.

Are you talking about the over center clutch pedal spring or the clutch fork spring? The over center spring should be the same with either. I don't know on the clutch fork spring.

Over center clutch pedal spring is what I was talking about, & thanks for the help. Is the over center clutch pedal spring the same on E bodies or not???

The pedals for 2nd gens are different than the E bodies and 3rd Gens but, I honestly don't know about the over center spring. I need one for my Challenger so I will find out pretty soon.

The shifter mounting plate that bolts to the trans and holds the shifter mechanism from the '71 is a rather large steel plate called a dog bone and will not work in a '68, neither will the rods. As 69 stated, you will need the parts from a '66-70 B-body. The mounting plate you need is the aluminum Hurst part that is about 4" tall, kind of diamond shaped and has #6348 or 2297 on the back of it. The rods are fairly straight, ( just very small bends in them) and are-- 6 1/2", 7 1/2" and 10 1/2" long from end to end. You also need the correct shift levers, (go on the side of the trans, the rods connect to them), they are stamped, #890, 891 and 967. On the over center spring, the '71 and up spring is to long and won't work in your pedal set. Mopar made 3 different ones for '66-70 B-bodies, light duty for a /6, medium for the 318 and the monster for 383, 426 and 440. If you are going to use a 3 finger B&B clutch, you want the big one, if its a diaphram clutch the small or medium one will be just fine. Wayne Brewer at Brewers Performance has what you need if your in a hurry, tell him Tom Clancy suggested that you call and it may help a little, you can look on ebay and probably find most of it or look through the swap meets and you should find them.
