I bought a 69 Charger XP 383 4bbl SE w/ac  that originally came from California in the early 80s. The tag on the car at the time was 1EWY960 California plate. I do know that it was serviced at Arroyo shell station in Oxnard, Ca address 4160 s. Saviers at Johnson Oxnard, calif phone 487-9242. I have tried to contact the guy that sold it here in Alabama and he was in the service out there, but no other info. My uncle bought it from him and he thought it came out of a junkyard in southern calif and it had a police interceptor transmission. How can I tell if that is a special trans, and is there anyone good at finding or tracking history on a car like this. I am going to register car on the charger registry, but I don't think he can find info on owners. Any tips are greatly appreciated.

To my knowledge, there is no such thing as a police trans for a 69 charger. And as far as tracking info on a specific car, well that much like saying I want to know who owned my special sparky(generic dogs name) 40 years ago. In other word it is very difficult to pin down an owner on a specific car. Maybe try being nice to the local dmv?

I will call the local DMV and see. I know That since it is an out of state deal they may or may not help me. I might carry them a box of chocolates down there. Ha. Did Dodge issue or any company make police chargers out there?maybe that is what he is talking about a police interceptor car Trans.

Honestly, in the grand scheme of things, none of that matters. The car is yours now, enjoy it for what it is  :Twocents:

You are right! I guess I am a bit of a history buff and like to know what the car has done in the past. I do know that the guy turned downed (thankfully) selling it to the production crew of Dukes Of Hazzard while it was out there. It would have been another piece of scrap iron. wondered what they offered him then? See my illness.  :shruggy:I want to see what the car has lived thru. Anyways I have big plans for the car and I hope to make some memories along the way.

If there was anything police specific on it, it would be a tranny cooler.  Hemi cars had them standard, I think they were optional on others

And no, no such thing as a police Charger or a police transmission.  But as said, what does it matter, the car is yours and the Chrysler transmissions were pretty much bulletproof anyway so what difference could it make?

he can name his tranny anything he wants even if its called 'police tranny'  :2thumbs:
