I'm installing oxygen sensors (Lambda sensors) into my coated Hooker Competition headers and need to weld in the bungs...what happens to the coating when welding...will it become real ugly?

I wouldn't weld into a ceramic header....the coating will be compromised  :P

On mine, we welded the bung on the collector extension about 2 inches downstream from the flange. Works fine with the LM1 wideband. I don't leave it in permenantly but if you are using an A/F guage that is going to be left in all the time....make sure to weld the bung on the top half of the pipe so that moisture will not collect around the sensor.  ;)

Mine is welded in at the 10 O'clock position, FYI  :yesnod:

Ok, thanks for the good info.
I expect to leave the sensors there because I will have the option to run the engine management (MegaSquirt) in closed loop, and it may be worth a try. At least it might give me a base map that I can manually fine tune.
I don't expect to find base maps for my build, 512 cui hi-compression E85 with sequential injection and ignition.
Thanks,
Martin

Just FYI, i run MS on my boosted BMW and its absolutely wonderful. You need to really go to a tuner to get it dialed in, but you should be able to at least get base enough to make it there. Also the "auto tune" feature actually works very well if you want to play with things a bit.

FLG, always good to hear about systems that run well. I like tinkering so I expect to have a lot of fun with the engine management! Adding boost is an interesting path, not that it's needed, but just trying to get it to work well would be great fun!  :2thumbs:
