I've got a 99 Yukon that I can't figure out.  I parked it about 3 weeks ago because I finally bought a dodge truck.  I went to start it and the battery was dead.  I charged it back up and I can't get it to start.  I've got spark, and even if I dump a little gas down the throttle body, it won't run.  It fires every once in a while, it just will not run.  - with the battery being jumped, it will turn over three or four times good and fast, then suddenly act like it has entirly too much compression, and stops dead.  If I let it sit for a couple of seconds, it will turn over quick again and then stop.  - any ideas?

try a known good battery. need to turn it over more than 3 or 4 times when cold.

be sure all your grounds are clean and tight.  they do all kinds of crazy things with bad grounds.

check fuel pressure, might have leak/air in the line.

Make sure you don't have too much gas in the oil pan, pull the dip stick and check for gas in the oil. I was boosting a friends van that had gas in the oil, when it tried to start it backfired and blew the valve covers!!  :Twocents:

On another note, they are notorious for ground issues. Take one end of you booster cables and connect to the engine and the other end on the body to give a good ground, see if it will turn faster.

Good luck

hmmm....I really don't think it's an electrical issue.  It spins "normally" for probably five rotations, then locks up.  I am starting to wonder if it would be possible that my fuel pressure regulator is stuck "open".....like it's just pumping too much gas into the cylinder and locking it up.  I pulled the dipstick and the oil does have a gassy smell to it.  - Could it be hydrolocking, and then seeping past my rings into the pan (the engine's got 193,000 on it).  Up until now it ran fine...

lots of things can cause that, fuel pressure regulator leaking, the way yours sounds its probably a bad crank sensor, also if it is the 5.7 engine the dist cap & rotor can do that.

sounds like liquid gas building up in the combustion chamber or vapor lock. check fuel pressure?

Try holding gas pedal down and cranking it, perhaps its flooded
