I listed my R/T SE on Ebay last night. It is a reserve auction. I did not put a Buy it now price. I have had several messages asking for a Buy it now price.
What are the pros and cons of a Buy it Now Price?
If I change my mind, can I add a BIN price once the auction has started?

I think a BIN price has to be 10% higher that the start price according to the ebay rules.  Also once anyone submits a bid using the "place bid" button, the BIN option is removed from your ad.  Some shoppers like the BIN so they can bargiin it down and get it without competing at auction.

You just have to understand that on ebay if you only get one bid at your start price, you are required to sell it at that price and conditions so make sure you can live with it.

So if I understand this correctly, I can't add a BIN price since the auction started at $200 and is at a little over $2000 now.
Do people assume that the BIN is the same as the reserve?

I would rather have a reserve than a BIN.  The BIN opens you up to everyone wanting tolowball you because now they have a starting point to work you from.  If you have a reserve and they cant see it, the cards are in your favor as the onus is now on them to work up to your price instead of them trying to work you down to theirs.

The BIN has to be at least 10% more but as long as the reserve is not met then BIN option still stays up regardless of bid numbers  I think you can add a BIN option after the listing starts.   What I do is list the reserve at the price I want or have to have.  I put a BIN option at a very much higher price so that the out fishing guys, game players and people wanting to try an get it for below value so they can resell it  (has happened to me) get weeded out some.  If somebody really wants to make an offer then they'll make one to you and its up to you to sell it or not.  Just make them come up with the price for offer if they're serious.  If you make a deal offline then just end the auction if it hasn't met reserve and check that it's no longer availible. List it in the local craigslsit for a good price you want and add to your description that is is for sale locally and you have the option to end the auction early if it sells locally.  Send anybody emailing you a link to the Craigslist add if they want to push it. Last thing put a contact number in the CL add and note that emails from the add aren't read and to please contact via phone number for more info.  Cuts out most of the scammers.    :Twocents:

You also lower the reserve later in the auction or make a second chance offer to the highest bidder if it doesn't meet it.  At least with a good reserve you have options if its not met.  I have lowered the reserve which made the highest bidder the winner which I sold it to.  You can have the emailer make the highest bid so far to make sure he's serious and sell it him that way and have the Ebay coverage (and fee)

Good link .  I forgot the 10% didn't apply to vehicles, just parts

A "buy it now" is just gonna make your car look more expensive ( & therefore seem more unobtanable). It may scare off some potentail bidders. I'd go with a reserve and dont let on to it... The object hear is to make your car look as attractive to buyers as possible. Nobody wants to pay more in this economy.

buy it now is the agreed price, they've accepted that price and have to pay it. don't let them talk you down and threaten to tell ebay if they won't pay the agreed price. it's pretty bad they have to force sellers to add 10% to BIN since that's what you SHOULD do anyway.

Thanks guys. I decided against a BIN. I am going to let the auction run until the end.
