It's been a couple years now since I sold my 3rd gen charger so haven't logged on for awhile.  Was driving around town down a back alley and I spotted this car at the back of someones drive, needing some love and wondering all kinds of stuff, I wonder what its story is?  Does he want to sell? I wonder if it drives?  Damn these cars just suck you back in..  Now I,m going to be stuck detouring my way back through this neighborhood occasionally just to make sure it stays there until I have enough money to ask if it could be for sale, which it probably won't be... Anyway, what year is this one? 70?

Doesn't look tooooo awful from the front. Lots of surface rust though and I bet sitting out in the rain like that means the trunk pan and forward floors are gone.  :'(

Let us know what you find out...

I don't see any rust.... All I see is mildew and crap from sitting under a tree. Looks like a dang good project car! Keep us posted

Looks like a nice car so don't tell anyone....SSSHH!  Now get out there and introduce yourself. After several weeks show up and make the guy an offer.  :yesnod:

Welcome back (almost, kinda sorta  :icon_smile_big: ), Chargers are like the Mafia or Hells Angels or Hotel California, you can never leave.

Basic conversation.....

"Hello, my names is so and so. good to meet ya'!"
"Hi"
"Was just riding by and happened to spot your Charger there and ...."
"Stop right there. No the car is NOT for sale, but for the low,low sum of $9500.00 I WILL sell it, I'm gonna fix it up someday 'ya know. Your bout the 57th person to ask about it this week..Better hope to make an offer before I threaten to throw it up on EBay!"

"so? You Still interested?"

"(Thinks to ones self), "!@@$@#$%%&&!!!!! Just wait till I tell the guys on the Charger board about this idiot!!!!"
" I have spent thousands of dollars and countless hours researching what works and what doesn't and I'm willing to share"

Ghoste

Of course there is just as much chance it could like this;

Hi, I'm so and so and noticed the Charger in the driveway

Stop right there, it isn't for sale I'm gonna fix itup etc etc

If it were for sale what would you want?

9500 firm

I like the car Id be willing to pay it

Really?

Yes really.

Deal!

thats right on how it may go. you never know untill you ask. also, the guy may have bought it years ago and always had the thought of fixing it one day. bills and life got in the way and it never got done. yes he bought a few parts when he first got it, but they were never installed and taking up space in the house. now its almost christmas and the charge cards are all topped out. he has bills to pay and is squeaking  by every dang month. then comes a knock at the door and a saint has arrived. blah blah blah about the car and he says, look i have x amount in the dang thing and it really needs to go. pay me that amount and its yours. :shruggy:

It would also seem that the car was recently moved to that location.

Precisely, in some environment where there is a constant/elevated moisture content in the air and or on the vehicle to support it's growth. The inside of that car is probably filled with mold and surface rust from all that water.  :Twocents:

Hi i am so and so and seen your car back here, was wondering if for sale?

Actually I have been thinking of selling it, I just lost my job at hostess so I could use the money

How much you want for it

9500 cash firm

ok well i can do that

deal

deal (run to charger forums to tell everyone)

I like the Mafia reference to this crazy Charger habit..  I will need to get a closer look,  he doesn't even have a garage to put it in.  Of course mine had to live outside too..

Yep, you're a made man now, a real wise guy.

JB400

I like the ones where they say just take the darn thing.  I'm tired of people stopping all the time.

F8-4life

However the convorsation may go... its a safe bet that the car is atleast 25% worse then the worst condition you expect... oh and alsp about 50% overpriced. for said condition.  Just looked at a '57 belvedere today, same old story.

russg

Patience is key, it may be a week, maybe a month or much longer... sooner or later if its not getting repaired or driven and he has no place to put it, he will want it gone, my business card on his fridge will make it just too easy to get it out of his driveway

Exactly, and if he doesn't want to sell he may turn out to be a great fan of the Charger like yourself and then you have another friend in the hobby.  :2thumbs:

the problem is,......................you cant start this up and then not stop and see what he says... we need to know.

I get that on the delivery trucks in GA and we run them every day.  It's more of sap.

paironines

My current 68 was obtained by stopping and asking. He threw another 68 in for parts after we made a deal on the first one. It happens once in a great while.

russg

Ok.. as mentioned at the beginning, this may not be the best time for me to buy but in the interest of wanting to know exactly what the story is with this car for myself (and the forum) I will make an effort to visit this guys house in the next few days as I'm in the area a couple times a week for work. Will let you know what transpires and hopefully at least get a closer look inside etc..
