 Hi all Dave here
I have never really introduced myself I have owned a 68 charger since I was 19 (22 years) For 10 years it was daily transprtation. I bought a house 12 years ago and it moved it into the garage. I still bought parts and worked on it but I never had the time or money to finish it. I finaly told myself if you do not do it now it will never get done.  Well now it is at the body shop getting painted. Over the years I have replaced all the sheet metal rebiuilt everything re chormed everything ect ect.It is a big kit ready to put back together. I will try to get some photos posted and keep updates on the resto.

Car originaly a 383 2 bbl auto vinyl roof with AC.  I bought it as a basket case with 440 auto. I built a 440 and converted it to a 4 speed with 4.10 sure grip and removed the vinyl.  I was not too worried about ruining an original car as it was a mess when I got it. It will be painted 331 red and I will put the AC back in at a latter date. So much work to do. I am glad the wife likes the car and wants to cruise in it with me

FIRST PAINT !!!!!
I got up early today and got over to the bodyshop by 5:30AM My car is almost ready for paint He shot the valance to make sure I liked the color. WOW I can not believe how great the car is going to look. THe guy is really cool he threw in a bunch of extras NC under coat trunk paint seam seal all the replacment panels. Now here is my proablem THe car paint is going to look so nice all the other parts need to look great as well. I have a lot of new and restored parts but things I were planning on reusing don't look so good now. No junk but a nice used part now sticks out on a fresh paint job.

That maybe why it takes so long to do these just right.  It'll be worth it though.

The '69 I did a ways back I had painted R4/331/71582, it's an awesome color!  I removed the vinyl top and it had the saddle tan interior, I really like the combo.  What are your plans for the top, interior, and stripe or not?

When you think of it, the body work is really the most straight forward of it all.  If you don't have the skills or dough then sure it's a huge issue but everything else about the car is much more troublesome to redo.  It drives me nuts to see all these repainted cars where nothing else is done except slather the interior in armor all.   :brickwall:

Unfortunately doing just that is apparently known as restoration these days.  I always found the bodywork to be the easy, relaxing part and wiring, gauges, interior and restoring every nut and bolt the tedious and long jobs.

It's gonna look great when the paint is done so get cracking on the rest of it.   :icon_smile_big:
Extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence.

Dmichels

Body work is not my thing so I farmed it out. I can wrench all day long and be happy. I have gone threw most of the major parts so it is ready to go back together To answer the other question Car has black interier, no stripe no top.

Who in their right mind would say

"The science should not stand in the way of this."?

Science is just observation and hypothesis.  Policy stands in the way.........

Or maybe it protects us.

I suppose it depends on the specific case.....
