Will the new "Charger" styling continue to move toward the 2nd gen body?

While I'm still no fan of the car I have noticed the obvious move toward 2nd gen styling, especially in the sides and rear of the body. Are there any plans in motion to continue this transformation with the rest of the car too? And assuming that will happen, what about offering a two-door version... ever. Other car companies offer two- and four-door versions of the same model so it can be done.

Honestly, I wouldn't be surprised if they don't drop the Challenger and make it a Charger 2door.  Outside of quarters and roof,  everything else just swaps over from the 4 door.  Depends on how the budget is and if the Cuda???? becomes a reality or not.  As far as reincarnating the 2nd gen again,  I doubt it.  This might be as close as it gets.

Ghoste

The Challenger is a halo car, I think there is a greater chance that Fiat will drop the two door altogether.

Maybe instead of the "Fiat500" of today, maybe we see a TRUE "Fiat500"....Like a Charger 500, in 2dr form. Maybe Fiat will be the saving grace for Mother Mopar as she's been pimped out like a cheap hooker lately that everybody seems to think it is? Then again, nah, Fiat will rape Chrysler corp. for as much as they can get like those Germans did.

Thats about what I think too, only this time there won't be much left to sell off to the next rapist.

Why would they change the name of an iconic home run like the challenger, that looks so close to the original?  Much more likely they drop the challenger all together :shruggy:  I think the new Dart followed the charger and kept little of the iconic look of the Dart :Twocents:
1969 Dodge Charger 500 440/727
1970 Challenger convertible 340/727
1970 Plymouth Duster FM3
1974 Dodge Dart /6/904
1983 Plymouth Scamp GT 2.2 Auto
1950 Dodge Pilot house pick up

skip68

The new dart looks more like a new version of the Omni.     :Twocents:    I can see the new Charger transforming more into the old style.

I don't see Fiat plundering Chrysler. It's all speculation of course but Chrysler gives them an 'in' in the US market that they've never really had before. It behooves them to keep the name for its marketable historic value alone.

It's going to be interesting to see what happens. I see the Alfa-Dart more like a Neon replacement. I've read that one issue for the 300/Charger/Challenger platform is actually the firewall area, it's the one area on a platform that was designed to be 2 or 4 wheel drive and 2 or 4 door that can't be changed. That's what gives these cars that "thick body" cross section, almost like an HO slot car look. It limits what you can do with body shape and body lines in front and to the rear of it. The radical change for the proposed Cuda's look is it's not based off the Challengers platform, it will not share firewall structure. That allows lower cockpit/windshield profile I believe. A Charger based on the new firewall could be a good looking ride in my opinion.  :scratchchin:

Ghoste

Maybe.  Who would have ever thought the Charger and Cuda would share a platform.

b5blue

Who would have thought Renault/Puget would start something that AMC would get in on only to be bought by Chrysler that lead to D/BMC buying Chrysler to get their hands on (While raping Chrysler's bank account.) then handing it over to a bunch of bean counters who sell it to Fiat? (After the steal Viper R/D to build a new Mercedes sports coupe.)
I'm amazed anything is even leftover!

RIP Chrysler RWD Musclecar. We hadda good run. Now, I'm sure we all look forward to whatever Jellybean, POS, Fiat, stupid, little cars you can muster with around 250HP and FWD...Dart was just the beginning.

Now that I got the net back, I can throw in my :Twocents:  Actually, the Viper is now the halo car of the Chrsyler corp, so the Challenger will probably get put in the trash can unless Dodge decides to stay in the pony car wars.  But, doing a 2 door Charger would be more economical.  Outside of a new roof, doors, and quarters, everything else is already made.  The only problem I see with that though, is they are putting all their eggs in one basket.

A similar thing was being said in the 80s. They went away and they came back. :shruggy:

In some bizarre to twist of fate it appears that currently Chrysler maybe saving Fiat. :shruggy:

Regardless, unless GM and or Ford abandons the ponies for a retro two door muscle car, neither will Chrysler.  :Twocents:

Your words intrigue me and I wish to learn more.
Never underestimate the power of stupid people in large groups.  Especially if they have access to the internet.

In referance to the original question....checkout HHP's web site (yes, the some people that make the Challenger Daytona/Superbirds) and their Charger 500 project.  Looks pretty good.  from the drawing.....
