It's been beat to death, but... The old locking gas cap

This is definitely something I want on my car... Too many shows I'll go to and walk away from my car for an hour... Or two.. To talk to people..

Anyways, not trusting anyone... I figured it's a good idea.. Oem ?? $200? I don't think so...

Does anyone have experience with this?

It's cheap enough, and if it works, it's worth it's weight in plastic....

if thats the  actual picture of it ,  wont fit  ,  must be for a third generation , maybe   ,  or you might need to remove the spring in side the flip top gas cap ?? :shruggy:

laysons  repoped a locking gas cap for a second generation , at one stage  , did think about getting one ,   although i have a NOS one  still sealed in plastic  & box  , bought it a good few years ago for $50  ,  some reason cant bring my self to use it  , now i got it  :image_294343: ,   :slap:

I don't see how that could possibly work on a Charger. You're better off buying the Layson's repro for $45.

Troy
Sarcasm detector, that's a real good invention.

Looked at Layson's website and could not find it, just the flip caps, is it made anymore?  Anyone have a link?

If I didn't have an original I would go with the Layson's. Just the piece of mind knowing nothing can fall into the tank is worth it. Here is a link to the Layson's locking cap.

IDK....looks like it might fit under the cap....the top surface is flat & thin enough to have the spring seal compress enough to close the cap..... :scratchchin:

I bought a NOS one years ago and the first time I used it and shut the cap, the piece dropped down the filler neck  :o

I was so pissed and have never used it since. Luckily I got that sucker out  :brickwall:

Still have it laying in my garage.

I've heard of that once or twice before.  What makes them fail in that way I wonder?

rick@laysons

The RD-25881 locking gas caps are in stock here in the warehouse and available to ship out.

Payment via PayPal can be accepted.

They are also in stock on our show truck which will be at the Turkey Rod Run coming up here shortly.

I have no idea ...... Seemed secure when I dropped it in place. Maybe top of filler neck was warped alittle  :scratchchin:

Did someone say discount?   :icon_smile_big:

How big would the order have to be to make it worthwhile Rick?  I'm sure a lot of us can use a cap but with all the other expenses going on it's way down on my list as well.
Extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence.

Yeah, I am in for one. I need one also. Always find mine open at cruise nights & car shows. Don't know if people walk by & just think it is cool to pop it open or what??? I know it is not from driving around because whenever I stop to get gas or park in the garage or something it is always still closed.

At this particular time, we cannot do any group buys or group discounts on this particular part. But do keep an eye out for any upcoming seasonal sales from Layson's, because this part would be eligible for a percentage discount when the order is placed with a sales code.

The manufacturer of this reproduction part went bankrupt a couple of years ago, and the tooling is gone for any more production runs. Hence, any further production runs of this part will have to be started from square one again. We do plan on another production run, but the time frame for that is un-determined right now.

My best advice.......if you want/need one...get one while the gettin's good.

These are popular items at our show tent, they sell very well. In fact, we will have a tent set up at the Daytona Turkey Rod Run coming up Nov. 22-25. These will be in stock in our tent at the show.

It's just too much of a temptation for some people and they feel compelled to pop it open....and once it's open some wiseaxx will drop something in that dark hole.   I've had one on my Charger since day one as I figure it's just cheap insurance against those that don't respect other people's cars.   I also added one to my 2008 Challenger for the same reason.
