So what happened to people who had already purchased a Superbird?
Did the Daytona's have any issues due to the lack of a bumper?

The Daytona was likely what frightened theminto moving forward on protecting us from ourselves.

The Superbirds had that strip put on the leading edge of the nose.  I believe it was rubber, but not sure.

The nose of a Daytona was classified as the bumper as far as Nascar was concerned.  You can see the early Daytonas sporting the 1" rubber strip between the fender and cone.  That did evolve into covering and smoothing it out in 1970, but the rubber was supposed to be under there!
