Aluminum water pump and housing...

While I have everything apart, I was wondering if I should replace the stock water pump and housing with new aluminum stuff. Would there be that much, or any benefit? ...or any concerns that I should watch out for. Did a search on here, couldn't find much on directly on topic, so if there's already a thread or relevant posts, just point me in the right direction. Also of course, if this something I should consider, what is a decent pump on a light budget I should look at?

Thanks,
Fred

good read   http://www.dodgecharger.com/forum/index.php/topic,60599.0.html

The 440 WP housing has gotten a bad rap in my opinion, and I'm not sure if it is the problem.  My experience as well as others is that the problem is the 440 Source water pump, not the housing.  The housing passages are smaller is true, but that is not the limiting factor to the flow as the housing flow capacity still exceeds that of the pump.  When you replace just the 440 water pump with any other brand of pump, they seem to cool fine. :Twocents:

I have a 440 source aluminum water pump on my 470 stroker...works fine  :2thumbs:

@AKCharger, do you have both the pump and housing or just the pump from 440 Source? I think I have decided to go with a Mopar Performance housing and an Edelbrock pump... I think...

Ghoste

IIRC, not all of the 440 Source housings were crap were they?  In any case, I went with the Mancini setup on mine.

I think it was the first batch of 440 source housing castings that had small passages, and was fixed some time ago.

Hmmmm, I don't remember? The housing for sure. I think I might have just swapped over the original water pump (I had replaced it on the other engine shortly before)
