Anyone ever seen one of these? I bought this at a swap meet this year for $20.00 It is an album and booklet with Petty doing the speaking. Kinda cool, seems to be new yet it was opened when I bought it. I wish I still had a turntable so I could listen.

WINGMAN

Yes i have one, they are a bit hard to find.

The booklet is the best part.   The record will make you want to poke sticks in your ears after about five minutes.   Iy does have the nifty Chrysler Plymouth "Coming Through" song at the end.

i have both of those too.

Mom's a schoolteacher, and one of her coworkers moved into a house that had about 10 of these, sealed, in the basement.  there were other records, too, but mom takes the cars around enough that people can put 2+2 together.  we bought them all, of course, for like $10 each.  we still have a couple--most went away to friends and the like.

At the MoPar nats, many years ago, there was a guy there selling them off a wood pallet for 5 bucks each. I already had a few so I passed.  He had hundreds, maybe 800 at the start.   By Sunday he had a few dozen left.
The booklet is the best part. along with the sound of a race hemi starting up.

The STP Petty record in the mid 70s is cool, too.  And "Nascar Goes Country" for a good laugh.  Not bad, but good thing they were drivers not recording artists!!
I've never owned anything but a MoPar. Can you say that?

Ghoste

I got one of the ones from that guy at the Nats.  Still have it.   ;D

You make jokes but I think I was like 4 when it started. Only missed 2 so far.

Ghoste

Yes, you are one of the few who actually could make the claim Danny.   (weren't there pics of you there at Indy in 82 or 83 whatever it was on the site in some thread?)

69_500

Probably. Didn't it start in 1981 right up in Michigan?

odcics2

It was the "Chrysler Car Club Convention" in 1981, 2, 3 & 4, if I recall.  The "Rapid Transit System MoPar Auto Club" put it on.
There was inter club political bickering somewhere in there and the MoPar Nationals started in 84.  (if I remember...)

I think in 1984 there were two meets at Indy: July for the "Nationals" and August for the last "Chrysler Car Club Convention".

Till this day, the "MoPar Nationals" count the few years of "Car Club Conventions" as "MoPar Nationals" events!   Fuzzy math, I guess...  :shruggy:

Ghoste

I thought 83 was the first year to drop the Convention portion of the name?  It also switched in there between convention and conference but I forget which one came first.   Also, fr you trivia fans, Jim Bielenda was a right hand man for Doug Rollins who headed up the Rapid Transit group but Jim left to start his own club, the Mopar Scat Pack Club in the same time period.

odcics2

Actually, his name was Gary Rollins.  He formed RTS and started the Chrysler Car Club Convention.  I believe it was after the 2nd one that Jim and some others broke off to form the MoPar Scat Pack Club.   :flame:  Local political feuding continued for years in the Detroit area between the two clubs.  :RantExplode:

Car club convention and MoPar Nationals were two different events sponsored by 2 different clubs.    I have some OLD t shits somewhere with the dates of the events on them...  May have to do some digging...  Actually, a LOT of digging!

The politics extended beyond the Detroit Mopar clubs at the time, but it sounds like we have a few of the same t-shirts languishing around somewhere.  ;)

the mopar nationals 'anniversary' shirts start at the '81 meet.  I tell people that I was at "mopar nationals minus two" since we were at the proving grounds in '79  :coolgleamA:

I think, 1980 was the first year for me.  I'll have to check my "souvenirs" when I get home.

Just got back from SEMA, Richard Petty was to be there for 30 minutes to sign autographs, when he arrived there was at least 300 people in line and he stayed until everyone got what they came for.
Anyone want a signed flyer from him that does not have his autograph yet. he signed the ash tray for my Daytona clone this year. If you want the flyer send me a PM with your address, first come gets it.

I guess Im the only Superbird owner who dosent like RP! Over the years Ive walked past many of the albums and never gave a thought to getting one. I guess for the nostalgia factor it would be cool.  :shruggy:
