Submerged Vehicles From Storm

After seeing the news with all the destruction for the past few days I started to wonder about how many vehicles were caught in the sea water.   :shruggy:  That led me to think about what will end up on the used car market in the next few months in the north east.   :o  I remember people were talking & posting about the same thing after Hurricane Katrina with all the flood damaged cars in the Gulf Coast area. There has to be a lot of cars that don't have anything but basic liability insurance that will never get reported as a flood car.

I can't help but feel bad for anyone that plans on buying a used car in the near future that gets stuck with one that had been submerged.

It is a 190SL, not a gull wing.    Still not a cheap date.   Shame.

I refuse to work on these when they come in the shop. Every now and then, we'll get one that has a weird "A/C" problem...Look under dash and there's that "Mud line"...

Heard about the Firefighters getting a simple little cut from one and dying a couple days later. Bullsh*t on that.

I restored one of those in '05 or '06.  Very nice car.  Damn shame.
Extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence.

You actually need to watch out where the storm DIDNT hit when buying a used car. I remember after new orleans flooded we had all sorts of flood cars show up randomly in north dakota and minnesota. they were selling them as having no damage. Most were not reported as flood cars after running a carfax. then again carfax really sucks I think.

Ghoste

We had a few Katrina cars turn up at auction.  They had been well cleaned but you could usually pick them out.  It would be a valuable car that they wanted to unload quickly and typically very clean looking but totally crapped out electrically.

TruckDriver

Saw on CNN thins morning, they were showing stuff on the clean up, and there was a red 1971 or '72 Mach 1 Mustang that looked in great shape, or was, in someones back yard partially under a car cover.

I also saw this photo too on a different site

I'm sure there's plenty of crook dealers that will take these cars in and turn them around as "one owner car" to uninformed buyer.

Ghoste

The unfortunate positive of any disaster I suppose is the rebuilding.
