I have more pictures of Staten Island I'll post later. I have one of an oil tanker on the street, and cars on top of other cars. The picture that has the dead end sign and you see a little bit of a white van was on the news. Unfortunately they were searching for two kids trapped in the house. My wife took the picture without even knowing it until she seen it on the news later. I don't think they found them.
My parents live in seaside heights NJ (Jersey shore) and the rollercoaster and log flume is in the ocean. The board walk is wiped out. Thank GOD that they were alright. My father-in-laws liquor store in Coney Island Brooklyn is under 6 feet of water.

I passed buy Chris's house and it was to dark to really see how much damage there is. His area has no power and I went at night time.
Chris when you read this call me if you need help with your home.

I feel really fortunate that for all the damage elsewhere...    the grand total of my misfortune for 3 storms in the last last 2 years was during Irene was the cable TV went out just as the new season of Jersey Shore was starting   :icon_smile_big:    That was almost a blessing in disguise except for the whining wimmin

This year,  the lights flickered a few times.     And there's a branch broken on my neighbors tree laying on my service lines coming into the house that I'll have to look into.

But I'm still at work...  no time off for hurricanes  :icon_smile_blackeye:

we are hearing of a skeleton entangled in tree roots 100 or so years old. flooding and destruction. flooded subways and tunnels. we here in the mid west know what storms with power are like due to the tornados we have.

all i can say is i hope the best for all of you and your families. the pic's on here of destruction, and on t.v. definately show what a storm can do to your lives. good luck you east coast people. we have all become a large family on here so it is affecting all of us while we watch.

She provided quite a show for us (Western basin of Lake Erie).  The breakwall in pics below is 15-20 feet above the normal lake level.  By Monday P.M the waves were close to rolling right over.

I hope everyone is ok.  :2thumbs:  We lost power for about 8 hrs total on amd off. Flooding and down trees around here but not that bad. We got water in the kitchen thru the dryer vent , I just put a bucket under it and stuck a towel in the vent. I texted Dan's Mom and Frank and they are ok.  :2thumbs:

Hey all thanks for the concern.  My area is on higher ground & didnt have to evacuate like Billfury's area is thankfully.  Lost power for about 25 hours.  Got it back this AM. Suffered a bit of roof damage & small water leaks because of it but nothing major.  Nothing compared to the devastation around other areas of the Island.  They are up to 12 deaths locally so far.  It is amazing how sea water can do so much damage....homes were ripped from their foundations & washed out to sea.  My prayers go out to all that were much less fortunate than I was.  Thankfully I could provide for some of my family that had to evacuate & still have no power....mother-in law has been here for 3 days & just got sis-in-law & the kids today.  My parents who live in south NJ fared well also...a few trees down but still no power.
Like Bob said, I work for the MTA Buses and have been at work the last couple of days securing our depots fleet & getting them back into service yesterday afternoon.  This city rely's heavily on mass transit and having no service for days really impacts everyone.
City schools are closed for the rest of the week.  Thats 5 days in a row which is unprecedented since our mayor NEVER closes schools no matter how bad the snow gets!
The damage on the east coast will surely exceed FEMA's $7.5 billion kitty.

There are tons of pics on the web but they do the actual damage no justice when you see it in person....heart breaking to say the least.

PS---The Charger is OK.  Thankfully it didnt rain too much by me so no water in the garage this time!

PSS--Bill thanks again & if you need anything dont hesitate to ask!

Service finally restored here on my end as well.
Lost power during the night of the storm. I have been EXTREMELY fortunate throughout this. No water damage, cars are fine, just have some siding ripped off one side of my house & some downed branches. Can't say the same for the rest of my neighborhood & surrounding towns. My wife & I have family & friends that live in the Jersey shore area, I was just told some of them have lost homes, others have no idea due to evacuations & the inability to return. Other family members I have are still without power. Some friends without power drove endlessly today just searching for an open gas station to keep their generator going. Lines have been reported upwards of 3 hours or more. I almost witnessed a fistfight from two drivers, one of which cut in line while making a U-turn. The other guy jumped out of his truck & ran up to the other vehicle, screaming & waving his hands. The line at this gas station had to be nearly 3/4 of a mile long.
Yep, schools are closed all week here as well. It's going to be a long, long time to re-coup. Hope everyone else in the Northeast here is doing OK as well.

Glad you guys are back online.  BillFury, those pics are terrible.  I wish you and your family well in this tough time.  We're still down here, going into night three without power.  The quote today from our mayor was that our utility JCP&L is still assessing the damage to our substation and until they finish assessing they will not give our town any time estimates so the 7-10 days we're hearing elsewhere doesn't apply to us.  I think she also used words of encouragement like unprecedented damage which made us feel great.  Murphy better not f**k us, but we have clean water, hot water, heat, a generator and enough gas and food to last another two weeks if we stretch it.  I hope it doesn't come to that.  Its times like this that make me glad I got my Eagle Scout and learned so much from my father.  Now if only I had the patience to deal with cabin fever and a 3.5 year old that doesn't understand what the loss of electricity means to his world.

Chris glad and everyone else are OK and safe. Thank GOD that my house is on higher ground, but if we had allot of rain I be screwed. The water is a block from hitting my house. I hear all generators because they have no power. I checked my shop where I keep and work on the charger, and the roof came down on my left front fender that was on the loft. The good is it didn't hit the car on the rotisserie. It could have been much worst. Here's a picture of the oil tanker.

bill440rt

The pictures are absolutely horrifying.
I saw on NJ News12 yesterday that there was a 350,000 gallon diesel fuel spill in Woodbridge, NJ, not too far from me.
I spoke too soon, my phones/service went out again this morning temporarily, they have since been restored.
I left the house early this morning with empty gas cans hoping to score some gas at a local station for a friend. I got there 1hr before they opened, the line was already 3/4 of a mile long & the station was roped off with police tape. Luckily, I just got word his service was just restored.
We have some friends coming over today that still have no power, heat, etc. Everybody is helping others.
Dan, if you need food the local Shop Rite is open by me. I stocked up on stuff yesterday, let me know if you need anything.

So sorry to hear and see the horrible damage.... Thankfully there are not as many deaths as one would imagine after seeing the damage.  Up here in CT we planned for the worse after dealing with last years 11 days without power!  Thankfully this storm only knocked out power temporarily for us.  My in-laws live along the coast and they don't know when they will see power.  Our grandparents live in NJ (near Bill) and they are okay but overwhelmed by the wreckage and issues this storm left in each town.

Our thoughts and prayers are going out to all in harms way and hope we can all meet at a car show next year when this nightmare is in the rear view!

And because Jersey likes to live tough, they are now calling for a Nor'Easter to hit us next week with snow.

Sweet.

The DC area didnt get hit too bad. Im about 4-5 miles north of DC and never lost power. Some areas around me did for a couple hours.
The entire Jersey shore is basically gone.
No more Atlantic City Boardwalk, most beach towns have been flooded, fires started from the flood. Seaside boardwalk is pretty much gone. Its going to be an interesting summer for NJ.

We got hit hard by wind and downed trees out in Frederick County. Last week, I dropped $2500 on tree work. It paid off as we didn't have much tree damage to speak of, but my neighbors on each side have huge messes. This is our fourth night with no electricity and the hotel bills are starting to add up. Considering how hard my home state of NJ got hit, we got off lucky. Power company is estimating we'll have power again by Saturday night. I'm just hoping the temps stay above freezing.

Chris glad to hear you and your family ( including the Charger ) are o.k.  That story of the mom that lost her two kids is so sad.  She just sat there on the ground until the next morning just crying.  Why do people even stay in those areas?  Did she not expect where she was to get flooded?

Glad you guys are all okay. We only lost power for a minute Monday night. The power company hired several tree companies to cut back trees near the power lines over the summer. I believe that made a huge difference.
What was weird was on Tuesday night on the back end of the storm we had a micro burst. A lot of lighting and winds stronger that Monday, lasted only 1 hour but managed to strip the shingles off my neighbors house. I've been in the hospital since early Tuesday morning for an emergency appendectomy, finally got home last night. Will attempt to hobble around the house and shop today to check for any damage.

My nephew is in the C/G and is stationed on a island in NJ. The rear admiral couldn't make up his mind in time for them to bug out and they had to ride the storm out on the island. Said it was pretty wild. The house he rents with two buddies is gone along with all his possessions. He has some incredible pics of the destruction.
