Shows the K&K at a track in Kansas circa 1972.    Anyone remember Al Alexander, the flagman at the track?

It has the drip rail moldings and the side glass is standard looking. 1/4 window does not have the same radius at the back like the car that ran Bonneville.
Looks like the rear window is not flush and has molding around it.   Quite legal.
Now, the scoops are low and molded in..   That is like the Bonneville car.     The "7" is odd on the door.  Wing lightening bolt makes an appearance, too.

    yeah front fender looks same as the bonneville car  ,  keep forgetting about the drip rail , the #71 that tim welbourne ownes , has it   got shaved drip rails ? i remember he found loads of salt in the car when stripping it for a rerbuild

I think the Bonneville car's driprails/trim/etc look more like they were just heavily mudded over, not actually removed.  It makes sense.  NASCAR wouldn't have let them run without it.

Bonneville runs were sanctioned by USAC.   They let K&K run an over sized fuel tank to be able to break the 100 mile records without a stop for fuel.  When I say "let" I mean they didn't check the fuel cell size after the runs. George Wallace was there has stated they inflated the tank to pop the bottom out to hold more gas! After, they simply banged on the bottom to get it to pop back to 22 gallons!   There are frontal side views of the car that ran Bonneville and you can see the roof is very close to flush with the side glass. If mudded over, you would still have the ridge. In a straight side view, you can see the rear of the 1/4 glass doesn't go back into the "C" pillar like the production car. And let's not forget the rear window was flush mounted with no molding.    That baby was one slick puppy.  Robert Gee was a master body man.

In this link you can compare a production Charger drip rail to the Bonneville car. You can easily see the Bonneville car has almost flush glass to the roof and "C" pillar.

Is it just me or does the top front of the door seam where it meets the cowl look like it's filled in?

Just a few of the things done to this particular car to make it slippery. (and not Nascar legal.)
Keep in mind USAC sanctioned the Bonneville record runs.
