does the metal frame work that the gauges, indicator lights and switches mount on also serve as their ground?  it looks to me like it would haft to.  i'm working on a wooden dash board and want to make sure everything is grounded.   thanks

wiper switches typically do , the circuit board should have the ground for lights though

Wooden dash board huh?  Yes, the metal framework should be grounded.

i screwed up.  it's just the 3 piece bezel set.  but it is 3/4" and is not just a face plate but a mounting platform too.
