Dynomax Ultra flow... How loud are they?

I've been searching the forum the last couple days for muffler choices and the Ultra Flo seems to be the favorite choice hands down. When I bought my '68 the guy had just put a new 2 1/4 system on it with Dynomax Super Turbo's. I liked these mufflers but they were a little too quiet for me and had a horrible drone at 1800rpm. Last summer I put on Flowmaster Original 40's which I think have a good sound on the car. They too have the same drone in the same rpm range. Two weeks ago I got rid of the turn downs and added original charger tips out the back and had them install an H pipe as well. The H toned down the mufflers and got rid of about half my drone.

I like the sound of the 40's on here but have the itch to try a new set of mufflers and sell these 40's to a buddy of mine for his '74 Power Wagon.

I'm thinking of ordering the Ultra flow #17217 and was just curious how they would sound on a 383 with a mild cam? Haven't found a lot of videos on YouTube to compare. Basically I'm looking for something that is louder than the Super Turbos I had originally but a little bit quieter than the 40's on here.

Ultra flow sound like the one? If not what other muffler sounds good on these cars?

I wouldn't want them on a car that would spend any time cruising at higher rpms.

I've run Super Turbos on several of my cars, both with 2 1/2" and 3" pipes. I wouldn't want anything louder. Guess I'm getting old. Then again, I get nothing but compliments regarding my exhaust note.

I have Dynomax on my 67.  I have the "Turbo" which they do not make anymore.  But the Super Turbo is about the same.  Nice rumble at idle and not too loud for traveling which we do alot of in the summer.
There are a couple different Ultra's and they don't have the audio up on their website yet.  But again it depends how loud you want them. According to the site chart, they are loud. :popcrn:

Ultra Flo's here as well.
I don't think they are that loud at all. Nice rumble at idle, and a unique sound when cruising. (At least to me, as I had been cruising Flowbastards in my other car for nearly a decade).
I prefer them much over the Flowbastards any day.

ultraflows here too 3" with an xpipe and electric cutouts. cutouts arent really relevant here but i just really like them haha.   i got a pretty mean 440 and i don't think its loud at all. my hemi ram is actually louder than the charger is. its a nice rumble at idle and cruise is totally fine. my camaro has a flowmaster kit and it drones real bad at certain rpms.

There's more to flowmaster then the 40 series........

My 383 with 50 series suv mufflers through headers and 3 inch pipes out the rear.

I installed the Ultra=Flows this year. Here is a video of them right after installation. They got a bit louder after I broke them in. The smoke is from the burning off of the protective film on the mufflers.

Got the ultra flows also http://www.summitracing.com/parts/WLK-17222/ and love the rumble at idle. Tolerable at cruising and just plain mean when you open her up :naughty:. Check this out, it kinda gives you an idea of the sound. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t9xOgxgui54

That sounds way better than the flowmasters on here now- your car has got that deep muscle car tone that I'm looking for

I couldn't get this video to play for some reason. To everyone else that posted videos, they all sound awesome.

I was browsing summit looking at all the different styles and sizes of the Ultra Flo and it looks like I can get them in 2 1/4 with offset inlet center outlet which is what I need in either a 20" case or 14" case. I'm going to go with the 14" case for a little more sound.

Anybody want a set of 40's that have 450 miles on them lol ? Was going to trade them to a buddy of mine for his 74 power wagon 440 but apparently he has 3" true duals so my 2.25" mufflers definitely won't work on that truck.

They have a nice deep rumble. I'm not planning on running resonators so I will probably have to deal with a little bit of drone but they have a very nice sound.

Just took this video 15 minutes ago. Motor was still cold and didn't want to rev it up too much but you get an idea of what it sounds like now. Definitely loud and raspy. It is actually a lot mellower and quieter than it was 2 weeks ago before I had the H pipe and original charger tips put on out the back.

Have 3" ultra flows on a 528 hemi, TTI x pipe. No drone, sound  nice all around. Can talk when cruising and still hear stereo play,.
If anything would have likes a little louder still at idle
Tryed flow master 40's as well as MAgana flow. Took them both off within a week
These flow 3 times more flow than Flowmasters

you can make the 2 1/4 flows work on the 3" pipe. i had 2 1/4 inch 40 series that came off the charger laying around. i didnt wanna waste them so i made them fit the hemi ram with 3" pipe. if you look at the mufflers the pipe is attatched to a i guess raised up cone area (my brains not working right now) if you cut the angled area back you can get a 3" opening then weld the pipe in place. i weled pipes in each side. then added flanges to both sides. that way i can just add in the other muffler in after this one rots off. shouldnt be for a long time as they were like new since the charger never sees rain.
