So stupid rookie question again (I'm still trying to learn here!) Just noticed that I had a little oil on the head, and across the top of the engine...not a lot. But some. And this is the culprit from what i can gather. So couple questions....first, what is this? and WHY is it leaking...and how can I stop it? Sorry for the silly questions...but thanks in advance for all your help and advice!

Looks like Seal gromment around PCV...They will never Completely stop what you see there. Cast valve covers are famous for this as well as Chrome stamped steel. Think of it as "Ant-corrosion" protection for those aluminum valve covers.

Welcome to the world of leaks.  it's no big deal, just wipe it down every now and then.

IIRC there should be a baffle under the PCV to prevent oil slinging from rockers no?  Maybe yours is missing?

Yes, there should be a baffle. It will leak without it. Check for a baffle and try a new grommet. They are cheap at Autozone. If you have a baffle and the grommet is good and it still leaks, you may have excessive blow by.
