69 Charger Grill Metal Pieces---Gloss Black or Semi-Gloss Black?

I need to refinish my grill metal pieces.   I'm talking about the sheet metal parts that are black.  The attached picture shows some of the parts (not mine) so you can understand what I'm talking about.  Should these parts be painted gloss black or semi-gloss black?  I've looked at mine and the top metal piece that the hood spring is attached to seems to be semi-gloss.  Looking at the sheet metal piece that the headlight buckets attach to----they almost look like gloss black.  But the whole assembly is spot welded together so I figure the finish is the same all over.  So what is correct?

Also------the metal bars behind the headlight buckets that operate them.  The restoration article I got the attached picture from says they are natural metal color.  Mine are not.  They are gold cad plated.  This car has never been restored.  Has anybody else see these bars being silver colored?  I'm talking about the metal bar that the vaccuum actuator attaches to.

My guide says 0* gloss black.  As far as the bars, mine says natural finish.  But if yours are cad plated and it's an unrestored example, I'd go back cad plated and document it if your going for a back to original restoration.  I'm say document it if your going to show it Justin Case the judge wants to deduct points.

Isn't zero degree gloss black just flat black?  If so, my car is not zero degree.  Now it might be 30 degree or 50 degree (ie semi-gloss) but it most definitely is not flat black.

I used Eastwoods Underhood Black for my vacuum pod brackets.  For the grill frame itself, I had a bodyshop paint it with Hot Rod Black made by SEM   

Its a nice low gloss black....not too flat, not too gloss

I used SEM semi-gloss black too and like the way it turned out.

What made me ask this question is that now that the unibody is at the body shop I was thinking about working on the grill assembly.  Was thinking about having the grill frame powder coated.  They do a semi-gloss black so that would probably be OK.  Until I got the assembly back out from under the house and started looking at it I didn't realize what a huge undertaking this is going to be.  Not a simple matter to dissasemble this thing down to the grill frame. 

Next step is to find a source for a complete hardware kit.

Don't let the disassembly task put you off. It's not as complex as it may seem, many of us have done it and you can too! I got faith in ya bro. Just take a lot of pictures from the start to finish with as many detail shots as you think you need for reassembly......especially the fasteners.
Were I to do it again I'd go with semi-gloss powder coat. You can get a complete fastener kit from R/T Specialties, Year One, Dante's etc.

Keep us in the loop and you know the drill........pix pix and more pix or Fred and his ducks will come to you house.
