Okay, this might be the wrong forum, but I've always wondered what women think of Chargers? Did your Charger really help you get your girl?

P.S. I'm not a newbie, I've been on this board for a long time, but rarely post...so I forgot my original username/password and had to re-register.

Nope, I dated the X and didn't tell her about the Charger till we were together about 6 months.

Now I am single and my view is this: If she likes the Charger for what it is(cool old car) great. If she thinks I might have money or something along that line she can keep looking

Speaking from first hand experience on this issue I have to say....It depends on the girl.

My woman is a big mopar fan and I was at a local pub one day for a comedy show when I met her. She told me that when she arrived with some of her friends they saw it out in front and she totally freaked out about it. Well come to find out, I knew one of her friends and she intruduced me to her and we pretty much so hit it off from there and weve been together ever since. Now since that time weve had a number of aguments that at times originate because I'm spending more money on the car than her but she's fighting an inner conflict on this issue because she really loves the car as well.

So my input is. If the girl is the type thats into cars then yes.....it can help.
Where you go from there depends on whats more important to you.  ;)

There was this girl I met in Freshman orientation at college. We talked for a while but after the test we went outside to wait for her father to show up and she loved my red 69 R/T I had at the time. We dated for 2 years and have been married for 25 years. Had to sell the R/T for our first house but she found my new 69 for me and drug me over to buy it. I new she was a keeper when she couldn't say enough about the car the first time she laid eyes on it. Oh by the way her dad was a ford guy so this was really impressive.

I bought mine after I was married already. But I have to tell you this. This past May when I was working on the Charger in my garage by myself, one of my daughters friends mother, definitely in the milf category, on her way out of my house after dropping off her daughter, she came over to the garage when I was laying on the floor taking off the exhaust system and said: "those are hot looking tail lights on that car" I replied with a "thanks" and told her that I was attempting to get the whole Charger looking hot, hopefully in several months and explained to her the whole restoration work that will be done to the Charger. After small talk, she then said at the end; "you know, you are going to have to give me a ride in your Charger when it's finished, these cars bring back old high school memories!" She said these with a smile in her face. I only replied: "sure". I really didn't know what else to say.  :-\

It's a bit off the subject but I think I get the gist of the underlying theme of your post.  :D

Oh, by the way I had a perfect view from where I was laying on the ground!! I wonder if she knew that! :icon_smile_wink:

As for a Charger being a chic-picker-upper, unless the car's value is really apparent to the person it's attracting, I doubt you'd want that type of person bleeding your wallet on you anyway. I know what car can be a good chic repellent, a Hearse. :D  I met one girl in college who was nice, & after talking a few times, asked her out. Picked her up in my Hearse after class one day, & she looked a bit spooked. We didn't go out a second time.   On the opposite note, same car, different girl, this one got a kick out of riding in it. She loved it & ended up with a casket roller imprinted in her butt. :D

I just got mine last year and I'm married 8 yrs now.
One thing is sure: I don't tell her all things (better to say money things). My 73 doesn't look nice right now and she don't want even to take a closer look of my "rusty can" - her words.
But she said that she want to have a ride after finished. That makes me opportunity for some excuses.  :D

In the summer of 73 I was working as a stockboy at a shoe store trying to get a date with one of the salesgirls. Without any success I might add.

My 65 Rustang died so I started telling the girl about the Charger was going to buy. I got her to agree to go out with me if I bought the car.
She told me later she never thought a stockboy making $1.60 an hour was going to be able to buy a $1650 car. That's why she agreed to go out with me. She was wrong.

To make a long story short we just celebrated our 20th wedding anniversary. And we still like taking the Charger out on "dates". ;D

It's not a midlife crisis, it's my second adolescence.

I got My Better Half because of my Ranger! :o Seriously she likes all of my cars but She is a Farm girl and when I met her she had an '84 Ranger 4x4 that was Rode hard and put away wet, and at the time I had an 01 Bright Island blue 4x4. She fell in love with my truck and I just hung out long enough for her to like me a little too. I traded in the 01 and have a Dark shadow grey one now and she loves this one more becasue it is a stick!  :icon_smile_big: That's my girl. She still has the '84 but it needs a total rebuild and we are going to turn it into an off-road rig, but she has a $50 beater to have fun with when she wants. She currently drives an 03 Expedition as a daily driver. She loves my cars but she will never own a car! "if it aint a truck it ain't worth driving!"

Who says cars have no personality?  Every time I go to start my charger I have to choke it just so and pump it this many times and when it starts put the choke to here until it warms for a few minutes.  If that ain't personality I don't know what is.

I never have gotten a girlfriend becuase of my charger but I had a girl go to prom with me because of it.  You see after prom we would head out to the backroads to race and party and *ahem*.  :D Well I guess for the girls it was a status symbol to be in the fastest car.  At the time my 69 was the 2nd fastest car at school.

I think a charger will get girls interested in talking to you (it works for me on occasion) but most won't date you because of it.  You do have to have a personality.

Bottom line, if you can't get a girlfriend without a Charger you won't get one with a Charger.
When I was just a very young lad I looked up and told my dad, a bareback rider's what I wanna be.  I want the whole world to know about me.  In the rodeo arena I'll make my stand.  I wanna be a rodeo man.  I'll come flyin' from the chute with my spurs up high, chaps and boots reachin' for the sky.  Spurin' wild with my head throwed back, you'll ask 'Who's that,' well that's Bareback Jack.  You'll ask 'Who's that,' well that's Bareback Jack.

I have to agree      Bottom line, if you can't get a girlfriend without a Charger you won't get one Charger

JohnnyBee

Yes it did. I knew this girl back in 1977 and we talked about cars. I had said that some day I was going to get this Dodge Charger.

About 2 years later I bumped in to the same girl and she asked if I ever got the Dodge Charger? I could not believe that she remembered. I said yes I did, and I have it now. She then asked me to take her for a drive in it.

We have now been married 24 years. For Her 2oth anniversary I gave her a '71 Charger Super Bee, 4-speed in Go Green.

All this because of a car!

So far the interest has been in young girls, like pre 21 ( I am getting too old for that age). Outside of that if they are older they tend to be a certain type whose daddy is into Dukes, racing, old cars, etc. These women rarely have the qualifications I require, like teeth.

No, never had a girlfriend.  You can judge me as you will, but I just don't sociallize much with people outside of work and the car scene (single women in my age range typically hate cars so that works against me).  I just don't typically have much in common with 99.9% of the way the world thinks socially and that is a curse of my mind (you could say that was beaten into me by my HS crowd).  I am allergic to alcohol, so partying is not something I can do.  Plus, there is a social faux paus about being a nerd if you work in science....  Of the few women in my field that I have met, my project cars typically scare them off faster than anything since they don't understand why people "collect junk".  Oh well, next week when everyone is spending $ on their signifigant other, I get save that $ for a later project......

I've had my Charger a few more years than I've been married (15 this year) and I suppose that there was a bit of image there that she liked (it couldn't all be my shining personality, right? ;D )  It wasn't just the Charger...also had my trusty Kawi GPz750, Top Gun red of course...

So yes, I'd say the Charger was a part of it...heck, she even "let me keep" the beast after her shoe caught fire once poking through a rusted floorpan and hitting the header collector... :o  LOL

I was already married, but my wife indulged me and allowed me to buy a 69 mach 1, then I had to buy her a mustang cobra, then she got a job and I said, can I buy a charger? She said ok as long as she gets the next car. Well its back and forth, she got the 02 lightning, I got a 67 coupe (rather have another mopar but it was 900 bucks and no rust and runs) and now she wants an 03-04 cobra. This is getting expensive!

when i first saw my hs sweetheart she was getting out of my friends girlfriends charger..i ended up with both, but got the girl first (she liked the ramcharger i had at the time too). the charger came like a month later. that relationship lasted 12 years ..thankfully never got married or had kids. ended 3 years ago this past week  :)  ..
fast forward a while there was this girl i had met in a chat room who was a mopar nut , saw pics of her whole familys mopars ect...i really wanted her but never thought it would work, she lived 40 miles away. i bought myself my current charger this past spring get it home, and oddly enough she gives me a call out of the blue that night, yes its concidence but weve ben toghether since.

Well I once had a girl that was jealous that I spent most of my time with my car rather than with her. She said I should name her so I did. My wife wanted me to sell her for many years but finally stopped pushing the idea. She thinks that a car is just a car. Her other qualities make up for her not understanding our love for cars. I think girls are attracted to mustangs and corvettes. I think I have more girls looking at me in my Jeep than in the Charger.

Can't say my Charger(s) helped me get my girlfriend (now wife), but at least she's understanding.
One of our first dates was going to a cruise night in my '68 R/T. We used my '70 R/T as our wedding chariot. She's a real trooper, she helped me guide it in the trailer back at the hotel after the reception, wedding dress & all, & me in my tux.
She's now getting her own ride (a '69). Who could ask for more?

Hey dd44068, I didn't say she "ASKED" for one!!  :icon_smile_big:

I kinda had to convince her to let me buy it. (It was the STEAL of the century, believe me!)
All in all, it's something I can get my son involved on too, when he's a little older. And, it would be nice to go to car shows as a family. Who knows, the Chargers could end up paying for junior's college someday. (I hope not!)
Yes, I guess you could say I'm lucky. Girls in the past hated the cars, and I guess at times my wife does, too.

Actually, it was the other way around for me(sort of). My wife and I worked at the same store. I liked her. We talked once in a while. One day I got up the nerve to ask her out. She said yes. I went back to my department and was talking to one of my friends and he told me that she had a Corvette. That was a plus for me. It may not be Mopar, but at least she likes cars. Car was more of a sausage magnet  :puke:  It was the nicest looking Charger in town and all I got was old hippies..."Man dude, thats a sweet ride" (spoken like Tommy Chong).  I have had the Charger before any of the women in my life (including the wife and 2 daughters lol).  gf (now wife) made a mistake of saying sell the car once.......I don't think she will ever make that comment again (that was 15 years ago).  She did get her first ride in last year and enjoyed the "looks" she got in it, even with it being a little rough on the inside.
Over?! its not over until we say it is! Was it over when the Germans bombed Pearl Harbor?!...Hell no! and its not over now!..(Germans? Pearl Harbor?...shut up, he's on a roll)

My girl avoids my '68 like it was the plague. She resents it and can't understand my fanaticism and devotion...she does expect me to work on her '99 Subaru though, and I do...but that's okay by me, she can spin clay pots on her wheel and worry about if they're wobbly or not, and I will worry about gear ratios and the right carb for the job. dm

Hmmm yes and no, indirectly maybe...

I met Emily in charger chat but it wasn't, the car that did it, heck if you'd see the car...even dogs resent it...

It wouldn't matter one bit to her what car I had but I'm sure it helps to have a charger instead of a big suv  :icon_smile_big:

She's just like me regarding cars, the charger is my ultimate fave, no lamborghini or ferrari or whatever can take it's place but there's tons more great cars and not all are mopars.  :D
I can just as well like a chevy or a custom caddy, doesn't matter really.
She used to have a '68 Z28 till a cop crashed into it, now she drives a last model ram air trans am which shreds my charger to pieces but....she wouldn't mind driving a '68 charger so I'll build her one, old skin, new guts.
Troy got anything left on your lot ?  :icon_smile_big:

I'm an extremely lucky man to have her, whatever cars are in the garage.

Your extremely lucky that dogs don't vomit when they see you, let alone have a cool GF like M.

Well, the night we met, I showed her a picture of the '73 Charger I had back then (I was/am a dork who carried a pic of my car in my wallet).  She said, "Oh, its a '73, right?".  She had me right there!  She always loved to drive it and she actually beat her ex-boyfriend in a race on Gratiot Ave with it... God, I love her!

Since then, she has always enjoyed/participated and even encouraged me in this insane hobby.  When I told her I found out about this cool Petty Blue '72 440 Rallye Charger in Youngstown, Ohio, her only response was... "That's your dream car... Why aren't you on your way there!?"

What a woman!  I think I'll go home and thank her again... :icon_smile_big:

ive heard the "You love that damn car more than you love me" a few times. and for those of you who have not had that happen yet. heed my warning. the correct answer is NOT "annnnd?.........." they seem to frown upon that for some reason. not sure why. :icon_smile_big:

all my charger has ever gotten me is flashed alot, and a one night stand or two. then it runs off most girls since they get pissed that i spend alot of time with my car.

My wife calls my Charger "the mistress". I told her it could be worse!

The first time I met my former GF was in my 74. That car hated HER. If it wasn't failing on her it was trying to jettison her out of the passengers door. I think the car was jealous. I spent all of my money on her before Barb came along. The cars long gone :'(, Barb and I have been married for 16 years. ;)

a race on Gratiot Ave with it...

Hey i have some friends that live off Gratiot.  His nam is kenny and he drives a modified elcamino station wagon sort of thing(red, if you saw it you would know what i'm talking about), digital dash and stuff it's really cool, he works at a body shop out that way.

ANyways, i'll let you know if the G/F thing works after June 25th at the local car show.  I did drive it today for only the second time and had an offer, matter of fact when I was at my buddies body shop he told me the girl across the street that works at the gas station said to him, and I quote " hook me up with that guy with the 69 charger general lee"

So i think mopars have their perks just cause they are the greatest cars ever made and not everyone has one.  specially in maine!!! word!
Life isn't Father Knows Best anymore, it's a kick in the face on a saturday night with a steel toed grip kodiak work boot and a trip to the hospital all bloodied and bashed.....for reconstructive surgery. But, what doesn't kill us, makes us stronger, right?

actually keeps girls away. I tend to spend money on it rather than on girl. So 99.9% of girls hate it, haven't met that .01% girl that would like it.
