I think the RT, it weighs less and they aren't going fast enough for the aero parts to be much of a factor.

Troy

I can't imagine the Daytona being faster. It's the same car with more weight.

I agree.  They are the same car with the same running gear but the Daytona is heavier so it'd be slower most likely.

I'd be interested to know the actual weight difference between a Daytona and an R/T with the same options...

I'll bet it ain't much. :scratchchin:

Ghoste

No it wouldn't be much but if both cars are equal in every other way then it still becomes the deciding factor.

resq302

could all come down to the driver also but I do have to agree with the daytona weighing more would be a factor.

Has to be same driver reacting in exactly the same way in order to be an accurate test.  Ronnie Sox in a slower car could kick the ass of most guys with better machinery.

On the other hand, the front end overhang may hinder weight transfer.

Troy

The front end may be a wash. Remember that the grill assembly, bumper and brackets are replaced by (lighter) sheet metal. The front of the fenders with that big support structure is gone as well. The headlight assemblies probably aren't going to weigh much more. There are a lot more seals though and some of them are pretty sturdy.

The back glass and "plug" definitely add some weight as does the wing and support brackets but it's all at the rear of the car. Presumably this will help with balance.

However, assuming all else is equal, it's a heavier car (even if it's only 50-100 pounds heavier).

Interesting point.  I wonder though even with it being lighter if the fact that it is further out on the pivot would counteract that

Troy

I doubt it matters a whole lot. If I had more time I could probably try to run some numbers. However, it's probably easier to just search for old magazine tests. :yesnod:

it all has to do with hp to weight in this case.     the rt is lighter thus faster. :icon_smile_big:

Yeah, but I`ll bet old magazine tests will have the cars about the same with sometimes one and sometimes the other quicker.  ( a lot like the real world)

skip68

Honestly, aerodynamics come into play over 60-70mph I'd assume.  This may make up the difference in weight and then some.  Wind resistance kills horsepower.   The Daytona may indeed be faster.   Wouldn't surprise me now that I think about it.

The 500 was the quickest road test car for Hot Rod in 69 I believe.

You know, there's enough people on here with at least one of each, why not get together and find out?  Don't let me spoil the bench racing though. :2thumbs:

think charger R/T would be slightly quicker  , but the Daytona would have one or two mile an hour ,  advantage at the top end in the quarter !!  , maybe  :yesnod: :scratchchin: :popcrn:
