I love the 70 RT but have never owned a 70 Charger 1-66, 2-68s, 1-69 1-71, 2-72s, 1-73, 1-74 and 1-83 :shruggy:  I guess I need to find a 67, 70, 71, several in the 80s maybe a Shelby :shruggy:  I don't realy have any interest in the 4 door chargers but maybe the late 70s Cordoba/Chargers :scratchchin:  hmmm it is truly an illness :eek2:

let me start by saying i have a 70 charger.  but in my humble opinion the 69 charger was the best looking car ever to come out of detroit.  if there was ever a car divinely inspired that was it.  but you wouldn't have to twist my arm real hard to get me to buy a 68.  the real sad part is mopar could have kept this body style thru 73 (74 the big bumpers can in).  no matter how you slice it you looking at 3 cars that would rank in almost anyones all time top ten.  hawkeye

Very true, even outside of Mopar circles.

Read some Mustang and Corvette forums looking for Vectors; even those guys are looking to get a 2nd gen Charger. :2thumbs:

I've heard that statistic for years, that the 69 charger is the most recognized musclecar of all time and the favorite.  Personally i prefer the 69, but thats only because i've owned one for so long.  I like the 68 next.  While DOH probably had a big influence over the years, I never cared for the show itself other than seeing the charger on tv and cringing every time it went airborne.  It seems the charger has been well represented in films through multiple generations  too bad that they always seem to wreck them in the end.   One of the few cars that actually looks fast while its sitting still.

I never cared for 68's the sidemarkers looked out of place and the tail lights never did anything for me the only thing that did look right was the grille.
Sold my Charger unfortunately....never got it finished.

I agree about the taillights.  Must have been copying a vette.   Horizontal taillights look the best.

Well it should be obvious to everybody that Chevrolet was trying to make their flagship car look as good as the Charger.  They had been satisfied with little taillights for years and all of a sudden in 1968 they come out with larger diameter ones?  I don't know about you but I smell a Chevy mole in the Dodge styling studio.

The tail lights made it look like Jet engines in the back :Twocents:  I alway liked them :shruggy:

Yeah, but 69's are like wide jet engines.  Like a Valkyrie XB-70.

I say the top three should have been a 70', 69', 68' Charger. In that order. The 68 tail lights look out of place as mentioned. The round tail lights & sidemarker lights don't go with boxy body style but yet I have owned more 68' Chargers than any other year & still like them alot. Just not as much as a 70' or 69'.

I guess I don't consider the body style to be very boxy.  In my mind, the round tail lights are way more distinctive and sportier - mean yet stately.  I used to prefer the 69 grill but the divider breaks it up and makes it a little more genial.  Now I love the unadulterated menace of the 68.

Mopar Nut

I'm not picky, I like all muscle Mopar's.
"Dear God, my prayer for 2024 is a fat bank account and a thin body. Please don't mix these up like you did the last ten years."

Dino

I had a 68 and now have a 69.  I used to like the 68 most although the taillights always bothered me a bit.  The grille on the 68 is great but I really don't like the silver stripes on them.  They look much better in black with silver surround I think.  The thing that I really love about the 68 is the interior.  The pleaded seats look great!  Wouldn't want them without head rests though, just doesn't look right to me.

The interior in 69 was still great but the fake woodgrain cheapened the whole thing a bit.

As for the 70, it still has the meanest looking muscle car body you can find but some details don't work for me.  I like the feel of the high buckets, but I don't like the look of them.  Don't care much for the door panels and plastic dash pads either.  Would it be a deal breaker?  Hell no but out of the 3 the 70 takes last in the interior department.  I never really liked the wrap around bumper but it doesn't look bad on a Charger.  I'd probably paint it body color though and get rid of that longitudinal divider n the grille as well.  Chrome reflector surrounds look tacky and the one piece taillights never did it for me either.  Still, I wouldn't mind owning one.

No matter what year it is, each of us already have the perfect Charger. :icon_smile_big:

JB400

Splitting the grill in half doesn't make the car look quite as wide.  As they said in the day, the cars looked like they swallowed a wide harmonica.  But for some, it makes for a good melody. :icon_smile_cool:
How can anybody consider these cars boxy?  The 2nd gen has some of the best subtle curves put on any car ever.  I sure even supermodels wish they had curves as good as these cars.  Lucky for us, some of them do. :drool5: :2thumbs:

Dino

Sure they have curves, but not neaqrly as curvy as the average European sportscar.  Most older US cars are a bit boxy, that's just the style here.
Extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence.
