So what system do u guys reccomend? I had grace out today and I couldn't even shop because I was so paranoid she was in the parking lot. I had a VERY expensive system in my camaro and it still got broken into and my things stolen WITHOUT setting it off. Sort of lost my faith in systems. Any thoughts? Thanks guys and gals!

Sadly, if they want the car they'll take despite any alarm system short of armed guards. Alarms are so ubiquitous that no one even notices one going off.

With that said, there is no way in hell I'd take my Charge to any shopping center......period.  :Twocents:
FLY NAVY/Marine Corps or take the bus!

I have used a Viper alarm. Has a key fob that notifies you when the alarm has been activated. Needed to add a tilt sensor ( for towing) and a broken glass sensor ( which gives you an occasional false alarm). Kills the starter, ignition and sounds the siren and horns.

Better then nothing.

Forget the alarm, all can be bypassed by someone knowledgeable, just make sure you are insured to the max.  BTW, never leave one of these cars in a parking lot.   Even if you are sitting in it, they will hijack you by gunpoint,if it is worth it.  Insurance, insurance, insurance.
too many to list!

Locks only keep the honest thief from entering...  :Twocents:

Even if nothing is 100% failproof, I still want to make it as inconvienient as possible for potential thieves.  So I use an Autolock that secures either the brake or clutch pedal.  Unlike the club, its mostly out of sight and they can't just saw through the steering wheel to remove it.  They would need to tow the car.  Yes - it is stone age.  But sometimes simple is best and it could be enough to thwart/discourage spur-of-the-moment theft.

Another option is an ignition kill switch.  You could also pull the coil wire but I think sophisticated thieves are wise to that.  Then there's the Lojack system:

My uncle rigged a hot wire to his door handles.

GPS the car, make your own unique hidden kill switch, and a tilt sensor wouldn't hurt.  As for people breaking in, there's not much to be done.  Keep everything out of sight & hope for the best.

I'm still willing to leave my car out of sight in public sometimes.  Yeah a Charger is worth tens of thousands, and anything getting broken is expensive to replace . . .  but that's no different from half the other cars in the lot.

Some time ago, my insurance specified that I never be out of line-of-sight for very long. I'm not sure if that still applies (insurance-wise), but I think it is still a good policy.  Dinner dates with the wife always included a window seat at the resturant of choice.  Colorado hasn't struck me as being a really high-risk place to own such a car yet, but it would only take one bad experience to change my mind.

You evidently haven't tried the built in anti theft device on every charger built in the 60s.

Just disconnect the lead to the resistor on the firewall, the 4 inch long rectangular one above the heater core connection.  The engine will start, but it will die in a couple seconds, usually by the time you put it in gear and start off, the car comes to a stop.  Someone showed me this when i drove it daily, and it did work for mine, not sure if it has any effect on manual cars.

Doesn't stop people from breaking in and taking items in the car, but then again it pays not to leave stuff in the open to start with.  I don't even lock my doors as i'd rather they just open the door rather than break glass to get in.  I don't believe in car alarms, they do nothing to stop the theft, and usually just irritate innocent bystanders.

SO FAR....I like this the best.  :icon_smile_big:

It's just a risk reward thing I guess. We all want to drive em, but when ya do you just hope nobody will bother em if you have to walk away for five seconds.

Brass

Exactly.  My car was keyed in the first week of owning it.  It put me on edge for a while but now I just try to not be too up tight about it.  The autolock gives me a little peace of mind and all the little things are repairable.  Just remember that, and try to roll.  :2thumbs:

According to the website $700.00.
I just use the club for both my Chargers. I don't do shopping malls with them. When we go out to eat with the Charger we usually hit a restaurant in downtown Portsmouth. The company I work for has an office/condo building there with secured underground parking. We park there and walk. Suxs that we have to pic and choose when and where to drive our Chargers.

I agree in terms of not bringing it to somewhere you wouldn't want it to be.  You can also deter some people with a steering wheel to brake pedal lock.

no alarms on any of my cars...but on the Daytona, I have a kill switch under the dash...it just grounds out the negative side of the coil so it will not start.

I did forget it was on one day and drove me nuts wondering why it had no spark

I installed a kill switch in my charger that no one will ever find.   The Mrs. still  can't find it even though I've shown her 3 times.

Tomorrow is promised to no one.......drive your Charger today.

You know, it don't seem right to be tellin what security system you have on your car on here.  There are probably some things that don't need to be said. :2thumbs: I'm one for Better Safe Than Sorry

Does anyone have a Charger that they do use as a DD that they will take to the mall and leave for hours?

Does some primer on the car = anti-theft?   :o

I'll be looking for a Charger next summer and would like to use as a DD, I had planned to install a kill switch like I had done 20 years ago with the 69 I had.  I'm actually hoping to find a driver that is a "20-50'er" that looks decent but not decent enough to steal.

6pkrtse

I have a kill switch & also sometimes depending where it is will take the coil wire off & put in my pocket, usually when I drive it to work. If we take Charger out to eat we sit where I can see it. I never take it to a mall or anything like that.
