What I did with my 8mpg Charger on the weekend

Yesterday, I stuck 50 bucks worth of high octane in my 8mpg Charger and then drove around aimlessly until it was all gone.  That's right, I wasted every drop of that resource and the worst part is, I don't feel the least bit guilty about it.  In fact, I feel pretty good.

Didn't see a single Volt Leaf or Pious either.  It was truly an afternoon of no enviro-nazi smug interference.  Me, a Charger and the autumn sunshine.

I've been doing that a lot, lately. And it feels real good!! :2thumbs:

Love the Chargers!!  :Twocents:

I thought you were going to put the Chevy Volt batteries in it as a project? :nana:

I just did the same the other day.  Didn't drive a tank worth, but half a tank!

Yep. Non car people can't seem to understand there's something "Soothing" about just enjoying a cruise in your ride. That is until problems begin to show up like no starts/shutting off on side of road.

8 mpg?  Dude there's something wrong with your setup, I get a whopping 10 mpg!

Sure is fun cruising around.  I've been using mine so much that it's no longer 'the car for special occasions', it's just 'the car'.  Leaves are turning here as well so I may take her out for a long cruise to nowhere soon.

4:10 rear may have something to do with my mileage. :icon_smile_wink:  The truth is I have no idea what my mileage is nor do I much care, its poor but that isn't why I drive the car.  The "8mpg Charger" phrase was borrowed from somewhere else and I just use it sarcastically to underescore how much I enjoy the car without worrying about mileage.  Thats not to say it couldn't reach a point where I'm concerned but it would be less about the number and more about how the number impacts the amount of driving I could do with the car and at one point I don't feel I am getting all the fun per dollar I should be getting fom the Charger.

Never fails...I ALWAYS have some jealous idiot at the shop, or car cruise that just has to bring up MPG when they are referring to my junk. WTF? You don't drive these for MPG....Sure, if you can get a few more why not, but it's not paramount.

I have a typical reply to these type comments.

Great answer Cooter, I'm going to steal that one from you and use it too.

Hey 8 ain't that bad, I'm happy to get 6 when I put my foot in it.   :icon_smile_big:

I'm at that point where gas is becoming an issue.  I should probably stop driving it to work but I can't help it, it's too much fun.  At this rate I need to top off the tank once a week and that's without cruising on the weekends, just driving to work and to the store.

I still think an efi 360 would be just as fun and much more economical, but the cost of acquiring said 360 and installing it is so high that I can just as well leave the 440 in it and enjoy.

If the TQ doesn't work well then I may just bite the bullet and get efi for the 440 and a different trans.  3 speeds just ain't doing it for me and that's with 2:96 gears.  I couldn't stand the 3:55's let alone 4:10's !

Yep, I do it all the time to. If the Wife & kids are out doing there thing & I am home alone with nothing to do & don't feel like working around the house or on any other car, I just jump in & go out for a cruise with no place to go.

Yeah, if I drive to work every day I need to top by weekend again for weekend cruising.  Seldom drive it to work though, much more fun to have no particular place to go.  (thanks Chuck)

Swweeet
This weekend Bakerhillpins and me went to the Sandwich Fair car show in our 10 MPG Chargers (actually I get 12). There were 80 cars registered. There were four Mopars, our two Chargers, a 71 Swinger and a 1929 Dodge Brothers Panel truck. After the show there is a car parade down through the fair. I had two T/A's in front of me and Bryan in his 69 Charger behind me. Hardly anyone was taking pics of the T/A's, but lots of people snapping pics of the Chargers.
Good to know there are still people out there that appreciate ours Chargers.

In fact, I have not done this in awhile due to some electrical issues. I need to go troubleshoot them, fix it & go for a ride before winter hits.

I was sort of hoping this was going to be about improving your mileage on an Fast EZ-EFI kit.

I thought you were gonna say you traded it in on a brand new Volt.

The Volt is a different car with a different purpose.  You guys keep getting your apples and oranges mixed up.  You don't buy a Ferrari to go to the local market with.  You don't buy a Volt for the soul purpous of cruising.  You don't drive a 40 year old car around that gets 8mpg for the purpous of just a family car.  Get it yet?  Yes I go to other threads outside of the wonderful " Volt " thread.
This car was sold many years ago to somebody in Wisconsin. I now am retired and living in Florida.

I had a good cruise on Sunday over to the other side of town to check out a mates recently imported R4 4sp Daytona , very nice.         I've got a Family long weekend away to the bach in 9 days and looking forward to the first big Family away trip 2hrs each way

Nice.    I'm envious, but I'll get there.   I love just walking into my garage.

Soak it all up now, guys..........like I tell the missus......it's gonna suck to be dead.

Who was the one who brought up 8mpg Charger mileage in the Volt thread?  Anyway, this is a Charger story and that's why I put it here, but interstingly enough, if I wanted to use my Charger as a family car I could and would.  It easily seats my whole family and the trunk is more cavernous than the storage area of a modern minivan.  Can you say "vacation with fast and class"?
