What I mentioned by your dad's car that will be yours or you and your dads is what some may make comments about.  If your dad helped you with these cars or just gave them to you doesn't matter.   I'd say you're pretty lucky then and others are just jealous.   As long as you don't flaunt it in somebody's face, pay no attention to what others say.  Glad to see another young gun in love with these cars.

It annoys me when people have envious thoughts they dont care what it took to get where i am i had to endure years of parts searching and all sorts of lost bids on ebay and it was tough on my family because i had to work 26 hours a day 9 days a week and it was worth it because i have a cool car it is fast and really shiny chicks dig it and if I were NOT married i'd be pulling in all sorts o bitches wanting to go for rides to 173 miles per hour or whatever my car can go i never actually topped it out but I bet that I could amost keep up with a jet or something because I get 4 miles to a gallon so that must mean that the car is fast right Okay i guess i made my point here

Ok so I'm young and have a 68 and 69 charger and I have people all the time yell that I'm spoiled or my daddy has to much money along those lines all the time even happened today my I got these and built them my self yes I did have help building them from my dad but we build a lot of cars. Just woundering who els has to putt up with this every time they drive there car and what other comments you get from people?

First of all, you need to use punctuation when typing. Periods would help us determine when a sentence ends and another begins. :)

2nd, I would give anything to have my dad or someone close by teach me how to restore stuff....especially bodywork/metalwork.  I cannot find anyone to befriend in the wilmington, nc area that could spend an hour or two to teach me how to do some things like replacing a patch panel, or prepping/painting a car. Considrr yourself extremely lucky and who cars what anyone else says. They are just jealous.

Yes, And I would stay in school if I were you. You have a long way to go with the understanding of the english language : use punctuation when typing. Periods would help us determine when a sentence ends and another begins.

The best thing is to get your hands dirty and try it.  I found this website years ago which is a wealth of knowledge.  Just like this site, great people willing to help.   I would think there is someone in your area you can learn from.

They used to have a Political section of the forum, and I had a lot of fun. :2thumbs:  Too bad it's gone. :RantExplode:

My name is Mike and I'm a Moparholic!

Lord Warlock

There are plenty of sources online that you can go to regarding body work, even patch panels.  In  my case I'd never welded anything before I tried it, although i WAS a welders helper on the oil rigs for a couple years in college, they used welding rods, i had to use a wire welder.  I just cut the rust out, clamped the new panel in place and tack welded it then continued with spot welds till the entire seam was filled, ground it all smooth then a thin coat of filler and lots of sanding.  Real bodymen will know its there, but the casual observer won't.  I suppose a butt weld would have been cleaner, but its too late now, its done and painted.

As is the case with most auto related work, its best to just jump in and try and you learn as you go.  I do recommend taking pictures beforehand that you can go back and use as a reference when you put it back together, pretty much everyone has a digital camera now so its easy to document things.  Noone showed me how to pull my 440 out, i just undid every bolt that kept it from coming loose, then used a cable comalong and a 4x4 between the rafters in the garage, and pulled it and the tranny out in one chunk.  I was shocked when I got it all back together after the swap and the engine fired up.  You do however have to learn your limitations and know when to back off and let the pro's do certain work.  Anything that will get me killed if it fails I usually leave for a real shop to fix, other things I find are just tedious and am willing to pay someone else to do now that i can afford to do that.

I spent years practicing with auto painting on my own before i attempted to paint the charger.  When people started asking me to do their cars I figured i had reached a point where i might be ready, after i painted the aftermarket hood on my 2010 challenger and it came out show ready I had the confidence to start spraying the charger.  Helps to be able to afford the tools needed.

Another vote here to use proper sentence structure on the site and save the texting for your buds.  That said, next time someone gives you grief about your age and having Chargers, just look them right in the and say, "I know right?   I totally wanted to crush this pos and buy a Honda but my dad said he'd write me out of the will.  What are you going to do, there's no way I'm going to go out and work for this stuff so I have to get that inheritance".  They should likely blink for a couple of seconds while they take that in and that is your opportunity to walk away or maybe you could add "by the way, you're a douche" and then walk away.  You don't owe anybody an explanation of how you got your cars.

JB400

The important thing is that you have your cars. And you enjoy having your cars.  The only person's opinion that matters, is yours.  Sit back and enjoy a cold one.  You deserved it, and the cars.  Those that don't have them, haven't worked hard enough to get one, or haven't had the luck.  Just let thier opinions just blow with the wind.  That's all it is.  Wind. :2thumbs:

Aussie R/T

I used to get that a lot bout my Aussie R/T.This A hole at a car show once said loud enough to hear that he probly had some parts in this mock up from his wrecked car.Had an argument over what colours were available because this red neck hadn't seen a Magenta R/T as they only made 4 or something.Oh and the dozzie was the tan interior never happened because the only cars he saw had black interiors.Man there's some people living in the past just because they didn't see it .it never happened.Worst of all was the charger R/T'S racing history because there was only really one televised race no one I know even knew the chargers won any races at all net alone nearly broke the lap record on every track they went too. There reliability came into question also when it was far superior to the other two. Some people thought they were V8's but chrysler never raced a v8 in Australia ever.Just real red neck live under a rock kinda stuff.

Get used to it. People see my cars and automatically think I'm loaded.  I built all 4 with my bare hands.
I simply reply: "Well, I'm loaded huh? What did you drive here?"
Reply: "My 2012 truck"..
"How much did you pay for that thing?"
Reply: "Gotta good deal on it only paid $48K"
Well, You add what I got in ALL 4 Of my cars and you couldn't buy that truck".....
it's called 'Asset Rich' (ie cash poor). i'm tempted to buy one of those cheapie 70s Rolls Royce, just so i can say 'my other car is a rolls royce'!

So, firstly, I gotta ask, OP...are you spoiled...and does your dad have a lot of money?  Because if the answer is yes, well, you figure it out.......

I'm sure jealosy does play into these "situations", but for me it's another factor.

I belong to a car club, and it's obvious that I and my family are the "poor" people in the club.  It's never fun to show up and have them repeatedly ask if we've got anything done on the charger, and say "no, we're broke", and then listen to how certain members have gone out and purchased yet another car to restore as they have finished restoring their last one (one couple has 6 mopars now, finished a restoration in less than a year.)

Always knowing that the "joneses" are going to one-up you when you show up at the car club meeting, well, we just almost don't want to go anymore meetings.

We tell them we're broke, we mean we're eating ramen noodles 4 nights a week.  They tell us they know how we feel...they still have food in the fridge.......and money to burn.

It's almost as bad at car shows.  Unfortunately, the majority of really nice cars that show up ARE owned by people that have money (and some them are pretty snooty about it too).  Many times we feel like we are the only non-rich people at the car show.

So, I can understand how it might be a bit frustrating to run into some young fella that has two nice old chargers.....considering I couldn't get my first one until I was 33......and considering my dad was 76 when I got mine, I didn't get much help physically or financially from him.....he never even got to ride in it before he died.

68charger hp383

I can honestly say I'm not spoiled. (well not in the way of having car's handed to me any was)" and my dad does not have a lot of money. all of his money goes to helping my older sister Which has cancer. And has been fighting that and other things for about 8 years now. She has had cancer 3 different times. had brain tumors .4 brain surgery's. kidney failure. a rare type of liver disease. And is on the heart transfer list." has been  pronounced dead a couple times. and also has a 4 year old little girl that is taking right after her and has already had a type of cancer. So all of the money that my family makes goes to that. I wasn't handed these cars. ( I just got really freaking lucky) I got the 69 for 500$" because the guy was moving and it had to be gone that day. It was coolest just missing the gas cap. The engine was already rebuilt we just went back through it. The 68 was pretty much the same kind of thing got it for 2.100$" so that's how that happened. and I know the feeling of not having the money to get thing's done on your car. The 69 has needed a new break booster for 3 months now" and some underneath work to. So I feel ya on that one :)

Amen. Once, twice, maybe three times, but sooner or later, you get tired of losing that first place trophy/best in show/whatever to the same old cars. Usually takes me about 3-5 years to complete a "Resto"...Sucks when some douche with money rolls up with a "Buy-it-now" car and takes your moment in the sun after 5 years of hard work...Been there and done that, got the T-shirt, wore it out, and now I polish cars with it.
