QuoteJust remember, like owning a Vette/Viper/Porche/other exotic Sports car, There is NO good time to own these. When your young, your just another rich, spoiled, douche..Buy one when middle aged, your just going through a mid-life crisis....Get a Vette when your the "old fat guy", and your just that, too old and fat to even get out of it....

Exactly.

And being a teen with a real musclecar is going to get you criticized no matter what you do.  If you pay for everything yourself on what you can earn at your age, then you can't do it nicely enough (and fast enough) so people say you're trashing it.  But if you get help then you're a spoiled brat.  If you did it well AND paid for it yourself then you must be a drug dealer or something.  The only right answer for some people is for you not to have the car.

It doesn't get any easier even w/o the age thing.  When you get a car done then lots of people will either tells you what's wrong with it (even when it's not) or what you should have done differently.

I do have to say this tho our 69 is a general lee

I think that's the problem right there.  Sounds like it's your dads car and will be yours someday or it's you and your dads car.   I have to ask what do you do for a living ?    :shruggy:   Buying and building these cars does require lots of labor but also lots of money.

No, the people who think that all airplane owners are rich playboys. Which seems to be a majority of people.

Don't worry so much about what some people say about your cars.  I get tired of penis size comments when driving around a muscle car, you get it even if you drive a new retro styled musclecar.   In your 50s, you don't get as many of the too young to drive that type of comments but you do get alot of midlife crisis comments, and to tell the truth, my 2010 challenger r/t purchase WAS a midlife crisis car, or at least that was the excuse i used when i bought it, i realized with two kids that were college age, i'd never be able to afford it again afterwards,  so got my toy now.  However, when you already have two other "toys" the excuse doesn't hold much water.  My wife detests that don't sell my old cars when i get done paying for them, still gives me grief for keeping the 91 stealth r/t twin turbo that is paid off, uninsured and just sitting in the backyard awaiting space in the 2 car hobby garage that the charger is sitting in now.

Agree.  Over the years some of the worst has been even family members... My father in law is always saying something.  Or my wifes brother who is 43 and doesn't have a penny to his name.

What I am absolutely sick of is "How many cars do you have now?"    Little do they know I have another one.  :nana:

I just tell people to get a real job, quick living off of us. You can not buy a Charger off of food stamps or unemployment.

I couldn't afford to build the the car I have now until I got into my 30's and got job that pays good money.   Honestly, kid it is people just being jealous.   My dad was great, but with 6 kids he didn't have any money left over to pay for building me a muscle car.   I'm a little jealous of that kind of thing, seeing young guys driving classic cars and realizing they probably had a couple more breaks than me, but I don't hate on them or mention it to them, that shit is just rude.   It doesn't stop me from enjoying what I have any less, either.   As long as you don't go around with your nose stuck up, then screw anyone who is just pissed they don't have what you have.   Have some humility if you didn't do it on your own and you have nothing to explain to anyone.

Case in point: I live right on the Atlantic Ocean, so around me are a mix of old hippies (beach bums) and rich assholes (and some nice folks) who have a beach house as a plaything.  I run into snobby douchebags on the regular.  Anyway, I was at the carwash a few months back, and there was this kid who was maybe 20 in a bright yellow 911 Carerra in front of me (wearing the fruitiest cowboy boots in history and with a mop for a haircut).   Right behind me was his mommy in a Lexus.   She was paying for his car wash (and obvoulsy had bought him that godawful ugly car) and he was going up and down the sidewalk talking down to the car wash people, telling them they should hurry up and to go to college and get a real job.    Then a girl comes up to take the lady's ticket, and he yells right in her face 'Don't bother her, she's a DOCTOR and that's a PATIENT she's on the phone with!' and the girl says 'F#CK YOU'.   I tipped her 10 bucks after she got done with my car :)
