Man, you have to pretty much disassemble the complete front end. What I did yesterday to replace the torsion bar boots on my friend's car was..

1. Remove brake caliber is disc. If drums, remove hub.
2. remove shock
3. loosen the forward and rear strut nuts (forward will require removal of safety pin if it is still there)
4. Back off torsion bar adjustment screw so no load is on it.
5. remove the 15/16 nuts that go on the bolts that connect the lower ball joint to backing plate / spindle.
6. place floor jack under lower control arm for support, remove bolts.
7. remove 3/4 nut holding strut to lower control arm ( you could loosen nut while the strut has force on it so it doesn't twist on you)
8. remove lower control arm pin nut 15/16 on front side of k-member
9. remove rear c-clip from torsion bar anchor out back
10. I usually bang on a piece of 2x4 wood placed on forward edge of lower control arm to push it back. Eventually, it will separate from the strut...  Make sure you remember where in relation to the lower control arm where your torsion bar hex-head is. The positioning of the anchor and lower control arm aren't the same. (you'll see when you go back to put everything back together..
