It's from the 1997 TV remake of "Vanishing Point".   That show had a '68 R/T in a big chase scene.  I recall they used two Chargers and killed the other one.

JB400

The 68 Charger was in the remake they did a few years ago.  It's driven by a cop and his deputy.  Looks like the Bullitt Charger and has the same fate. :bawling:  One more film that can't go without destroying more Mopars.

The remake turned it into a sort of love story and Super Soul was a white guy wtf.

In that ebay ad it's not an R/T like they have listed. It's a 318 car.

I think it came out in 1998, I still have a T shirt in my closet with the black 68 on it that says Vanishing Point "Takes a Mopar to catch a Mopar" :icon_smile_big:
Sold my Charger unfortunately....never got it finished.

yeah it wernt a real  R/T ,  might be remembering  it  wrong
but was not even 440 powered for the film or they put a 440 in it  :-\  :scratchchin:
was a big feature in one of the mopar mags at the time  ,   think the yellow 71 roadrunner /GTX  , was going to be a superbird , but  the film set insurance would not cover it or something along them lines  :scratchchin:

Definitely my favourite part of the movie.  :2thumbs:
I like the fact that DVD's come with scene selection.

Tomorrow is promised to no one.......drive your Charger today.

Ghoste

Yeah, they couldn't just cleverly outwit the cop, they had to wreck the Charger.  I did like the line about not catching him with a dogpie Chevy, it takes a Mopar to catch a Mopar.  That and the Charger before wrecking it are the only good things about the film.

XS29L

Did you catch the bumper sticker on the Charger?
MOPAR OR NO CAR !!

I had one of those bumper stickers on my 72 Challenger!  :icon_smile_big:

Must see if I can get hold of one. Not to stick on the charger (that's mutilation) but to stick up in the mancave somewhere.

I just send him a message that he should change his ad.  It's a clone at best.
Extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence.

I purchased one from Stephen's Performance out of AL back when the remake was released.  I believe Ted Stephen's obtained several of the Challengers used during the filming.  At the time he was selling 1:18 Scale VP Challengers in special movie scene boxes (4500 made), along with the bumper stickers and other VP items.  I am not sure if he still sells any Vanishing Point collectables, but you might want to drop him a line...couldn't hurt.
On another note I have movie posters from both films and two LP sound track albums that a friend found in England while in the Navy.  The overseas albums didn't have the center foldout desert scene.
1970 Daytona Charger SE "clone" (440/Auto)
1967 Charger (360,6-pak/Auto)
2008 Challenger SRT8 BLK (6.1/Auto) 6050 of 6400

I'm late to the game here  :o...Bob there's some really cool information about your 68 R/T black beast in relation to the movie car used in the film.   :2thumbs:

JB400

Just a heads up.  HBO is showing the remake of Vanishing Point this month.

I prefer the original, but the remake isn't bad either.  At least there's a nice chase scene between a Charger and a Challenger :popcrn:

wingcar

One thing about the remake is that it was obvious that it was made with "car guys" in mind, or at least in part targeted towards that attendance....Check out the garage scene near the beginning in which the mechanic talks of the cars in the garage including the yellow 71 Road Runner along with the 70 Challenger.

I have to say that I like the original better.....But, the second has more of a developed story line.  And the original "Super Soul" was played much better in the original.  Each year on my way to the Reno Air Races I pass through Goldfield and Super Soul's broadcasting location.....It's the Goldfield Hotel that they actually started to restore many years ago....(As a side note, not one person in town I talked with remembers the movie....very surprising)

(*Both movies are well worth having in your DVD/Blue Ray/Video collection)

1967 Charger (360,6-pak/Auto)
