I'm curious as well...even with simple electronic ignition upgrade, I was advised to open them up a bit. I can't remember what I set them at, .042 rings a bell. (stock is .035 I believe)

Will be going all MSD shortly...

I have the Mallory Hyfire box on my car which has 10.5 to 1 compression. I tried running a .045 gap for a while.  The only difference I noticed was that shorter distributor rotor life so I went back to .035 gap.

Maybe with less compression you can get away with a bigger gap.

It's not a midlife crisis, it's my second adolescence.

can you feel a difference between a .035 and .045 gap.

...thinking about this a bit more, wouldn't the use of multi spark stuff like MSD actually reduce the significance of a gap difference? ...so the difference realized between .035 and .045 would be less with MSD, vs a stock ignition style?

After experimenting, 48 is my sweet spot. (505 Hemi with MSD, MSD wires, Blaster, Champion cut back plug, INDY heads, single 850 carb).

I remember Ron said 50. I think you need to start at 45 and move up and down to find what your motor likes.
