Tracing past history of a salvage vehicule ?

Hi All,

Bought a 2001 dodge ram 2500 quad cab short box. It was a insurance write off in Alabama in 2007 and imported into canada  in 2008.

I'm wondering if there are anyways of tracking down the insurance photos of it when it was scrapped ?

I got all the papers from the governemnt inspection here showing the frame was square ect. I don't really care that it is a rebuilt registration as i don't plan on selling it, but would like to have seen how bad it was wrecked.

I'll take a rust free southern cruncher over a rusty bondoed turd anyday lol.

I don't know how you would get them.   The good news is that it does not take a serious collision or incident to total a six year old truck, especially if it has some miles on it.     It could not have been too bad if it was repaired.    If your truck runs and drives good, I'd let it be and not worry a thing about it.    You probably got a nice discount for the salvage title. 

I have a similar situation with my older 93 Ram which I bought back in 1999 as a rebuilder.

Do you know which insurance took care of the claim? They may still have the pictures.  Alternatively, if you can find out where the truck was repaired, the body shop may still have the pics.  Long shot on both but it's all I can come up with.

Said it was reported as vehicule overturned int he accident then titled to an insurance company then rebuilt title issued in Georgia. Next it came to quebec.

Not sure if it was fixed in the U.S or fixed up here.

The story from the seller was something fell on the box and the box was changed. He never told me it was a rebuilt registration till after i put a deposit on it. I saw it myself and asked what that was about and this was the answer i got.

If it was a roll over they must have changed the cab and all as there are no signs of repair and from a couple paint chips it is original paint.

I was kind of P.Off he didn't disclose this, but I looked the truck over good before hand and this didn't change my mind.

I got it for 8K with the contractors box that i'm hoping to sell for 1500-2000 so that would make the truck $6500.

215,000 miles 24 valve cummins pump was rebuilt 60k miles ago and lift pump changed with receipts. Its a 6 speed stick.
I was looking for a 5-6 speed quad cab short box.

If i compare prices in the U.S these things are still in the 10-15k range. That bein said salavge or not still pretty good deal on a rust free truck. BUT up here in communist land they don't sell nearly as high as everyone wants to save the earth and drive a smart car or prius. I kind of paid market price for a clean titled rig in my area. I go to pick it up tomorrow, so i'm going to ask what the real story is with the report in my hand.

For a flipper it would be a deal killer, but like i said i don't plan on gettin rid of it and IMO the newer common rails with all the pollution stuff i have no interest in.

Oh ya the box has got to go. I looked at the cab mounts and no signs of anything, don't know. Usually a roll over the cab is tweaked. After the reported roll over i'd like to have the pics just as a trophy. To have as a before and after like my 70 is getting now.

I wasn't crazy about the brown, but its growing on me. Some of that wide chrome tape on the bottom might look good.

I have an aluminum headache rack on my other 97 dodge diesel(that is for sale ) that is going on this one along with a meyer plow mask. Since it was for a long bed i will have to get the rack shortened.

Had planned on selling the 97 in the spring and buying then as i need a truck to plow the driveway. Finding rust free stick 4x4's here is like finding a hen's tooth.

I would think that 12v cummins would be no problem to move
