SRT Barracuda to replace Challenger

Let me pitch this idea.  We know the Chrysler corp/ Fiat is not going to build that blue thing.  Thank god!!!  Instead of naming the Challenger replacement Cuda,  would you prefer they give it a completely new name, OR name the replacement Charger, and name the current Charger different, maybe Avenger?

Tomorrow is promised to no one.......drive your Charger today.

Would you prefer the Challenger replacement be called Cuda, Charger, or something else?  If it's called Charger, they could rename the current Charger something else, like Avenger

The next gen challenger will also be the same body style the cuda. The cuda will only be available as an SRT branded car with a 6.2 blowen hemi finally.
From what I have read.

Ghoste

Yes, my understanding is that any of the performance stuff will be part of the SRT brand.  Why not rename all of them?

Dino

Does Chrysler think that the cars by themselves wouldn't sell so they give them names of former glory cars?  Is it that hard to come up with a new name?
Extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence.

Ghoste

They have a marketing department that tells them just that.  It's just like Ted Templeman allegedly used to say to Eddie Van Halen all the time whenever he tried to get him to do cover tunes, "if a song was already a hit once before, your work is half finished".

The SRT division is now a new brand ie. Plymouth, Chrysler, Ram etc.  Will they continue to offer the 6 cyl under the Dodge name, with the same body style, like the Challenger now?
1969 Dodge Charger 500 440/727
1970 Challenger convertible 340/727
1970 Plymouth Duster FM3
1974 Dodge Dart /6/904
1983 Plymouth Scamp GT 2.2 Auto
1950 Dodge Pilot house pick up

Ghoste

I don't know, are they even planning to retain Dodge for much longer at this point?  They want to inject as much Fiat into the US market as they can, will it be done as Fiats or rebadged as a Dodge?  If I were to guess, the plan is to keep Chrysler to sell American cars, add Fiat to sell small cars OR keep Dodge but it only deals in small cars.  SRT and Ram stick around until someone offers enough for them and then sell them off.

JB400

Right now, SRT is to Chrysler as AMG is to Mercedes.  You want my opinion, here's my list of brands that will be the next to go:      Dodge, Cadillac, Lincoln, Scion, Jaguar, Acura, Buick, GM truck, Lexus, Mazda, Mitsubishi.

Ghoste

About the only ones on your list I see going are Dodge, Scion, GMC truck and possibly Buick.

Indygenerallee

 Cadillac is going nowhere, same goes for Lincoln that would be like killing Chrysler. GMC trucks are not going either, hell they have a high retail than a damn Chevy truck and look better as well. Scion will stick around as it's Toyotas division and they roll in the dough.
Sold my Charger unfortunately....never got it finished.

Ghoste

As GM consolidates its retail network though I can't see them keeping GMC and Chev for trucks.  Maybe.  If one is selling better they won't kill it I wouldn't think but can you imagine the outcry if they tried to kill off Chev trucks?  So maybe GMC will stay.  Is Scion working out that well for Toyota?  Almost never see them here but that means nothing.

JB400

The only Scions I see are that boxy Xb.  I think Toyota will eventually phase out the Scion name.  Ford is pricing itself into its Lincoln category, and Lincoln hasn't created any wow factors lately.  I do like the split grill though.   Jaguar and Aston Martin are basically the same cars, even after Ford sold them off.  Bond flicks will keep Aston Martin provenaunce afloat.   Cadillac and Buick will both duke it out for quite a while longer, but in the end, I think Chevy will follow Fords' footsteps.
Acura is just an expensive Honda. It'll get phased out eventually when it sees the other manufactures switching to just one nameplate.  Toyota will follow suit with the Lexus.

I agree,

I especially disagree with the "Top Shelf" luxury name plates. There is no way any of those Auto companies you name are going to convince a customer looking for a status symbol and considering Mercedes or BMW would also feel that looking at a Toyota or Chevy instead of a Lexus or Cadillac is going to give them the same prestige. Same goes for several others in your list.

I'm sick of seeing Corvette/Camaro looks in the Dodge line of concepts.  It's like there is one design team that does all the designs for all new cars.  This week they work for Dodge, next week they go over to Ford, then to Chevy, ect. ect.    :rotz:   They all share the same flavor.  Look at the lines.   :slap:   NO CREATIVITY AT ALL FOR NEW CARS.   ONE BLEEDS OVER TO THE NEXT AND THAT'S A FACT.  WHY CAN'T THIS STOP?   :shruggy:   A Charger looked like a Charger, Dart like a Dart, Challenger like a Challenger, Camaro like a Camaro, Corvette like a Corvette, Mustang like a Mustang, ect ect........ You know what I mean.  Very clearly different designs and different cars.

It was the school of aerodynamics, crashworthiness, and production efficiencies.  The stylists would draw more interesting unique cars if they were allowed to.

As for the 'Cuda name - I doubt many non-musclecar guys under the age of 40 and making enough money to buy a new SRT would even recognize it from the past.  It does not have the kind of recognition that "Charger" or "Challenger" has.

Ghoste

Also worth noting that with the costs of producing a new vehicle today, if there is a success in one camp, the leaders at the other are screaming "do that do that".  Me too isn't what it used to be and no one wants to bring out the next Aztec when Camry's are selling just fine.

Unfortunately, they did bring back the Aztec, it's called the Volt.   See other thread for details

Ghoste

I don't see much Aztec styling in the Volt? :shruggy:  Then again I haven't seen any on the road yet to compare them to the old Pontiac.

Obviously, you didn't get it.  I wasn't talking about the style.
